O2 Priority Website and App Crash due to Unexpected High Demand for Peter Kay Tickets

The company seemed to have been caught off guard by the demand.

O2, a UK-based telecom services provider, is having severe issues as their Priority website crashes on Thursday, Nov. 9, due to the influx of people wanting to attend the comeback event of English actor and stand-up comedian Peter Kay.

The O2 Priority app also seems to be experiencing issues, as many users cannot purchase tickets using their phones in tandem with the website's downtime.

It was recently reported that the iconic personality is launching a new tour, and pre-sale tickets for the concert go on sale on Thursday.

Frustrated Fans Took to Twitter

On a report by Express.co.uk, fans trying to get tickets are now being greeted with a blank screen and a message that says, "Error. There was a problem and we've been notified."

Those hoping to get a seat have resorted to Twitter to vent their frustrations over the problems.

One Peter Kay supporter by the name of Amy said on Twitter, "Cheers #O2Priority for not even allowing me to log in after you logged me out while waiting for #peterkay ticket."

Meanwhile, another user by the name of Kirsten called out to O2 to fix the problem as soon as possible.

O2 Expressed its Sorry

O2 has issued an apology for the disruptions occurring with the network and cited "unprecedented demand" as the cause.

In a statement shared on social media, O2 said they are aware that many people cannot access the Priority website and app. According to the company, they are seeing demand for Peter Kay's show that they have never seen before.

"This is by far the highest demand we've ever seen for Priority Tickets in 15 years," it stated.

Since the pre-sale lasts 48 hours, they are asking fans to keep checking the site and app as they resolve the issue.

The O2 Priority Program

O2 users can purchase tickets for forthcoming events before they are made available to the general public via a program called Priority Tickets.

The tech firm claims that there are only a certain amount of Priority Tickets available for each event, which is obviously why so many people are attempting to utilize the service at the moment.

Express.co.uk reported that Priority is available to everyone who has an O2 contract, but it is not all it entails. Because of the recent merger between the mobile network and Virgin Media, the Priority service is now also accessible to those using the Virgin broadband network.

Kay's Comeback Event

This will be Kay's first tour in over 12 years after the 49-year-old artist canceled his prior gigs in 2017 due to unpredictable family situations.

It has been reported that beginning on Dec. 16, Kay will perform a monthly residency at London's O2 stadium, in addition to his upcoming shows in big venues around the UK, such as the Manchester AO Arena, the Newcastle Utilita Arena, and the Liverpool M&S Bank Arena.

Official tickets go on sale at 10:00 AM GMT on Saturday, Nov. 12, at peterkay.co.uk, in case the O2 Priority website and app remain down.
