Solar panel-powered parking lots will soon be required by France as it joins other EU nations' renewable energy efforts.
Back in 2020, the French government was the only one relying heavily on nuclear power to generate needed energy supplies.
Meanwhile, Germany, Spain, and other EU countries are trying to enhance their renewable energy sources. Now, France decided to join them.
The French Senate announced that it approved a new bill requiring parking lots to install solar panels.
Solar Panel-Powered Parking Lots to be Required in France!
Public Senate reported that French senators adopted Article 11 of the bill on the acceleration of renewable energies last Friday, Nov. 4.

This bill specifically states that the largest outdoor car parks should install photovoltaic panels or other renewable energy power generators.
Before the bill was approved, it stated that solar panels should be applied to car parks larger than 2,500 square meters.
But, involved senators decided to change the square-meter requirement.
Instead, the committee preferred to define a threshold in some places instead of surface area, as reported by Engadget.
Because of this, the bill now states that solar panels will be required for parking lots with 80 to 400 spaces.
Start Date and Other Details
The French government said that parking lots are required to install solar panels starting as early as July 2023.
Parking locations with over 80 spaces need to complete their photovoltaic systems five years after the start date.
When it comes to larger parking lots, officials will give them less time, only three years, from July 2023.
But, there are some parking lots excepted from this new requirement.
For example, the new bill will not affect outdoor parking areas with technical, architectural, heritage, safety, and environmental constraints.

The use of solar panels is clearly expanding in various industries.
Previously, solar panels allowing underwater wireless communications are expected to arrive.
We also reported that new floating solar panels in the North Sea are being developed.
