The adoption of Red Hat Device Edge will allow Lockheed Martin to further support US national security missions. They will be able to apply and standardize AI technologies in limited areas.

What Military Missions Can Get From the Collaboration

The collaboration of Lockheed Martin and Red Hat will equip US military platforms with advanced software that was previously too complicated or large for some systems. With this, even small platforms can handle large AI workloads, which will increase their capability in the field, which will also help in quicker decision-making.

A recent demo showed Lockheed Martin using Red Hat Device Edge on a Stalker UAS. The Stalker utilized onboard sensors and AI to adapt in real-time to a threat. It was flying an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission to detect a military target. Once it detected it, the engineers used Red Hat Device Edge to update its software in-flight.

As a result, it allowed the Stalker to deploy updated AI-based computer vision capabilities. Therefore, it will be able to classify military target more accurately. It will also deliver more useful ISR data and enhance the situational awareness of the threat for the US military.

More Developments and Improvements Soon

Lockheed Martin, Red Hat, along with other collaborators, are working on improving the 5G.MIL capabilities with RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) functionality using Red Hat OpenShift to deliver better communications for the Department of Defense.

Better AI for the US Military

The latest collaboration shows how AI is being integrated into the military. With the development of new technology, the US military can have better capabilities to defend the country. Using AI-specific software such as Red Hat Device Edge will allow the military to have non-traditional solutions to threats.

The tools and the platform will allow military personnel to be more adaptable and pro-active. This collaboration will also ensure that the US military has better and more improved decisions to make in the field.

Red Hat continues to develop technologies to help different industries move forward and make the world a better place. They aim to provide innovative solutions to the challenges of today and the future, which will help in making the world a better place for people.

With Lockheed Martin and Red Hat collaborating, we can expect more military platforms to be equipped with AI features in the future.

The military artificial intelligence systems will be more capable, faster and smarter than before. They will be able to take care of threats and provide a higher level of situational awareness.

With the USA's military more adaptable, more effective and with more improved and quicker decision-making, the country will now have a better defense.
