The New Game

So, what can you expect from the new game? In the game, users need to solve puzzles to beat the Demogorgons and other monsters. During the process, they can collect up to 50 versions of characters from the show.

The first Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales game was first released in 2021; however, following the acquisition of the game publisher by Netflix, the game was removed from the App Store and Play Store in August

The game is also part of Netflix's efforts to enable fans to engage with the show in various ways. In fact, earlier this year, Netflix partnered with Reddit for a Stranger Things-based customized avatars. Then, it also partnered with Spotify for personalized playlists.

The Push Towards Gaming

Even though it's evident that Netflix is trying its best to push towards gaming, it hasn't bring significant results. A report from Apptopia showed that the games on the platform were only averaging 1.7 million daily users. During the Q3 2022 earnings, Netflix also announced that they now have 223 million subscribers.

Cloud Gaming Soon?

Netflix is also exploring cloud gaming, and that the company will be opening its second gaming studio in California. Its first gaming studio is located in Helsinki.

As for its gaming competitors, most of them are content platforms such as Steam and YouTube. However, there are also others such as Apple, Google, and Amazon, who are also looking to invest in gaming content. So, Netflix has its work cut out for itself.

Netflix has had a spotty track record when it comes to video games. A couple of years ago, it entered the video game world with a string of titles.

For a company that spends billions on marketing, it was surprising to see Netflix bring its brand to video games. Its first step was to acquire a video game company called Telltale Games for a hefty amount.

The Telltale Games deal would allow Netflix to bring interactive stories to the platform. Therefore, users can play as the characters from its original productions in the game.

The deal was meant to inject new life into Netflix's brand. It was also supposed to lead to the company creating its own video game properties. Telltale's games were mostly based on television shows or popular brands.

Netflix is no stranger to increasing competition, but it may not be up to the task of competing with gaming giants like Steam and YouTube. However, it's better than no company trying to compete with them.

Netflix may not have the best video game catalog, but it's more than what they have now. This is also a step towards a future where Netflix will be able to compete with streaming platforms like Hulu and Amazon.
