As Elon Musk's new Twitter management announced several layoffs, everyone at Twitter is blaming former CEO Jack Dorsey for the chaotic week of corporate downsizing.
Former Twitter CEO Under Fire
Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter who resigned as CEO a year ago this month, has long been known as the cool hippy among employees. Many would imagine that with his personal life consisting of meditating between dating models and fasting, people who worked with him would not develop animosity. However, this is not the situation at the time.
According to the New York Post, there is discontent among Twitter employees, half of whom are anticipated to lose their jobs under Musk. "Jack is despised on Twitter," a source familiar with the incident told The Post.
Dorsey is said to be to account for what transpired with Elon taking over the firm. Parag (Twitter's recently dismissed CEO) and the board believe he is as bad as Musk.
"Just look at the stock price before Elon bought it. It was about $37 and had been flat for about ten years. The company hadn't grown because Jack was gallivanting around on his jet with these models," the source said.
However, according to the informant, no one wrote about the company's failure since everyone idolizes Dorsey and believes he is the next Steve Jobs.
Many also came to say that he's not a lightning rod for controversies like Musk, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, or be viewed as socially awkward like Mark Zuckerberg. But it would be a mistake to assume he's any less Machiavellian or megalomaniacal than the rest of them, according to multiple individuals close to him.
"He was the lowest person in the room at Twitter at one point, and then, because he wanted to be the most important person in the room, he was - and he ended up being CEO," said author Nick Bilton, who interviewed Dorsey for his 2014 book "Hatching Twitter: A True Story of Money, Power, Friendship, and Betrayal."
Many people rallied for his support as well. Jack is not a hothead or a hot-blooded person, according to Nik Yakovenko, who worked at Twitter under Dorsey's administration from 2015 to 2017. Yakovenko professes Jack is calm, which many Silicon Valley executives are not. He claims to be more intelligent and honest than you may believe.
Some of his previous workers have also stated that he is uninterested in money. He enjoys nature and the outdoors, and he is highly interested in blockchain technology. It will be interesting to watch what develops with Bluesky. It is about the future decentralization of social media networks to allow people greater control.
Where is Jack Dorsey Now?
Right now, Dorsey appears to be keeping a low profile after resigning from Twitter. Close sources said he's still establishing Bluesky, a social media firm that claims to give users and developers greater control, only a week after his fellow billionaire businessman Elon Musk purchased Twitter for $44 billion. More than 30,000 customers have already joined Bluesky.
At the moment, Dorsey's Square and Bluesky representatives did not reply to calls for comment.
