Riot Games 'Valorant' 5.10 Patch: Public Beta Teases Agent Cypher Buff, Fade Nerf, and More

Is the 'Valorant' meta finally shifting for Cypher?

The first-person shooter game, Valorant, reveals its game changes for its agent characters and user interface for its 5.10 version patch.

Riot Games' Community Manager for Valorant, Jo-Ellen, recently posted on the Valorant Public Beta Environment (PBE) subreddit regarding the changes that will be made for Patch 5.10. The changes are currently being tested out on in the Valorant PBE.

The Valorant PBE is a public testing environment where players can sign up to test out bugs and balance changes in separate clients and servers, later on giving feedback directly to Riot Games. However, according to Dexerto, the Valorant PBE is only available for players who are in the North American region and do not have any ban or restriction history.

Among the 5.1 patch changes include balance changes to agents Cypher and Fade, as well as an improved user interface for the game.

Valorant Agents Cypher and Fade Balance Changes

According to Blitz.gg, the statistics for Radiant-ranked players in Valorant Episode 5 Act 2 show that Cypher ranked 18th on the frequency of picked-out agents, seating him at the bottom three alongside Killjoy at 17th and Yoru at the bottom 19th.

Thus, to avoid power creeping from new agents, Riot Games developers have given Cypher a character buff for patch 5.10. Cypher's character changes for 5.10 can be summarized in three categories: his basic ability, ultimate, and quality of life.

  • Trapwire (Basic Ability)
    • The maximum Trapwire length value has been increased from 1000 to 1500, allowing players to set the trap to longer distances.
  • Neural Theft (Ultimate)
    • Cypher's Neural Theft now reveals the enemy team's locations twice. There will be a four-second delay between the location reveals.
    • The time restriction to cast his ultimate on enemy corpses has been removed, so Cypher can instantly use Neutral Theft after defeating an enemy.
    • The maximum cast distance value has been increased from 1200 to 1800.
  • Quality of Life
    • The yellow silhouette used for Cypher's reveal on the Spycam and Neural Theft will now start dimmer and fade faster to make it more distinguishable from an actual enemy.
    • The yellow silhouette will now disappear if the enemy becomes visible to the player to help reduce confusion of the silhouette.
    • Cypher's trap utilities can no longer be destroyed by allies' AOE utility damage

As for Fade, considering that she ranks 4th among the most played agents, her abilities will, unfortunately, be nerfed to balance the current meta. Only Fade's basic ability and ultimate will see balance changes.

      • Prowler (Basic Ability)
        • The duration of the prowler has been reduced from 3 seconds to 2.5 seconds.
        • Delay on Prowler bite after reaching a target is increased from .4 seconds to .6 seconds.
        • Hitbox improvements.
        • Nearsight duration on hit is reduced from 3.5 seconds to 2.75 seconds.
        • Prowlers now fizzle out and will no longer debuff instead of debuffing the target in case they teleport before the prowler finishes its animation.
      • Nightfall (Ultimate)
        • Ultimate Cost is increased from 7 orbs to 8 orbs.

      Valorant User Interface Changes

Following the recent UI changes from patch 5.08, many players shared mixed reviews on the new main menu screen and post-match interface.

ESports Driven reports that Valorant Patch 5.10 will be bringing back the "One Click Access" feature to most menu locations due to public demand. However, the change is still subject to change depending on players' feedback.
