Before Matter was launched, it was called CHIP (Connected Home over IP). It is a royalty-free home automation connectivity standard that could simplify smart home systems.

According to Android Headlines, what Matter offers is interoperability, the characteristic of a product/system to work with other gadgets.

Involved members attended the CSA Matter Launch Event in Amsterdam. They showcased their Matter products with a wide array of categories.

These include occupancy sensors, weather devices, smart plugs, motion blinds, and platform components.

As of writing, around 190 products have already received the Matter certification.

"Matter has the power to create a more connected, safe, and useful Smart Home," said CSA CEO Tobin Richardson.

Smart homeowners can expect great things from the new Matter home automation standard, especially since it is a joint effort backed by Google, Samsung, Apple, Amazon, Zigbee Alliance, etc.

Matter's Acceleration

As of press time, the new Matter specification has already garnered over 4,400 downloads. The Matter software development kit also sees a drastic increase in usage, with more than 2,500 installations from Github.

This shows that the transition from standards development to standards adoption is accelerating.

CSA also ensures that users can easily have Matter products by authorizing test laboratories in 16 locations across nine countries.

For those unfamiliar with the new Matter smart home standard, this tech works by matching smart home gadgets with other products from different manufacturers.

These include robotic vacuums, doorbells, thermostats, light switches, appliances, and more.

This means that Matter will ensure that your smart home devices can communicate with one another despite having different developers.

Aside from this, Matter can also make setting up electronics easier, thanks to its offered interoperability.

The launch of the new Matter home automation standard is a great effort, especially since more and more devices are being released.

Recently, the new Google wired Nest Doorbell appeared in a store before its official launch date.

Apple also introduced its new Level Lock+, which lets iPhones open smart home doors.
