Sony reveals PlayStation VR 2 (PSVR2)'s price tag and release date. And it turns out to be more expensive than its PlayStation 5 (PS5) gaming console.
However, compared to other VR headset offerings, the PSVR2 still seems to be significantly cheaper in pricing.
Sony PlayStation VR2
As per the latest news story by News Australia, Sony announced that the pre-orders for its upcoming PlayStation VR2 are opening this November 15.
However, the virtual reality headset has yet to start shipping to its customers next year. The Japanese gaming firm disclosed that the PSVR2 is debuting on February 22, 2023.
In a recent blog post of PlayStation, the Vice President for brand, hardware, and peripherals of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), Isabelle Tomatis, announced the launch date of the PSVR2.
Besides the VR headset, the PS VR2 Sense controller charging station is also set to first see the light of day on the same day.
PS VR2: How Much is it Priced?
Apart from what to expect from the upcoming VR headset, the Sony VP also disclosed the suggested pricing for the upcoming PS VR2.
News Australia notes in its report that some fans of the PS VR2 were somewhat shocked that it carries a more expensive price tag than the PS5 gaming console.
It is worth noting that a PS5 console retails for $499.99 in the United States, according to a report by Games Radar. On the other hand, the Digital Edition of the console, which ditched support for discs, only costs $399.99 in the US.
However, the new PS VR2 carries a $549.99 price tag in the US. For this, it already includes the virtual reality headset, controllers, and stereo headphones.
So it turns out that the PS VR2 is roughly $50 more expensive than the PS5 gaming console.
But if you are looking to get your hands on the PS VR2 Sense controller charging station, it would cost you $49.99 more.
PS VR2 vs. Other VR Headsets
However, News Australia highlights that the pricing of the Sony VR2 headset is still way cheaper than other VR offerings these days.
To put it in perspective, the Meta Quest Pro retails for $1,500, whereas the Valve Index costs $1,000. Given that, it looks like the new VR offering of the PlayStation maker is still significantly more affordable than other VR headsets.
