Google Introduces New AI-Powered Text-to-Video, Language, and Writing Tools

A proof that AI can address modern-day problems!

Google unveiled many new developments in the fields of generative artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in text-to-video and language analysis, as well as writing assistance. These were announced during the Google AI event on Wednesday, Nov. 2, VentureBeat reported.

The conference also centered on the company's efforts to create ethical AI, with an emphasis on issues like control and safety, aiding in the identification of generative AI.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated in a video shown to guests that the company is dedicated to making sure the technology is designed in service of helping people, like any revolutionary technology. The purpose of the event was to reimagine how technology might be useful to people's lives.

The 'Imagen Video & Phenaki' Combo

Several announcements concerning Google's generative AI were made public by Douglas Eck, principal scientist at Google Research and research director for Google's Brain Team. These included Google's cautious, slow efforts to release its text-to-image AI systems in comparison to DALL-E 2 or Stability AI.

Google has stated that it would add a restricted version of Google Imagen to its AI Test Kitchen app to gather early input, even though it is not yet accessible to the public.

Furthermore, Google has released the first video created using its Imagen Video and Phenaki text-to-video research methods, expanding on the work it unveiled last month. The end result is a hybrid of Phenaki's text-based video generation and Imagen's sharp visuals.

Wordcraft Writers Workshop

Eck also spoke about the LaMDA dialogue engine and how it was used in the Wordcraft Writers Workshop, which tasked established writers with creating experimental narratives.

According to The Verge, Google is now employing LaMDA to develop Wordcraft, a prototype writing tool that may assist creative authors in creating original works of fiction.

Automated writing assistance is nothing new, as there is Grammarly or Jasper. Wordcraft, however, stands apart from the rest since it is intended to be used to create stories. It is a web-based word processor that Eck defines as a "text editor with purpose."

This tool lets its users alter words or give them specific instructions to make a statement more humorous. If prompted, it may also provide item descriptions or suggestions. It is an AI program that serves as both an editor and a writing companion.

An AI-powered Language Model

Google is reportedly planning to create a single AI language model that supports the 1,000 most spoken languages across the globe.

The firm is launching "the largest language coverage seen in a speech model today," which is an AI model trained on over 400 languages, based on a separate report by The Verge.

While facing criticism regarding the systems' usefulness, Google has begun incorporating the language model into products like Google Search. Language models often repeat undesirable cultural prejudices like racism and xenophobia and cannot analyze language sensitively. Google notoriously dismissed researchers who wrote papers on these issues.
