New Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta Update 10.69.3 Is Now Out for Internal Testing

Release notes suggest high-level changes.

Multiple reports tell us that EV manufacturer Tesla has already released its Full Self-Driving (FSD) Beta version 10.69.3 for internal testing, and many people have already accessed its release notes online.

According to Electrek, this software update includes a number of high-level changes that can improve the performance of the software. The FSD Beta, in particular, allows Tesla vehicles to drive autonomously to a destination entered into the car's navigation system.

The latest update was announced in October, keeping the ".69" version number extension to its tenth beta release for the Full-Self Driving (FSD) autonomous driving system. Elon Musk previously stated that the new update would significantly improve everyone's driving experience.

According to the same Electrek report, the EV manufacturer has begun pushing a new FSD Beta update v10.69.3 to staff members for internal testing, which typically indicates that beta testers in the customer fleet will soon be added.

A report from Carscoops tells us that many of the update's improvements can be attributed to the conversion of networks to two-stage networks, which reduces latency while also improving function.

In addition, the update upgraded the Object Detection network to photon count video streams and retrained all parameters using the most recent autolabeled datasets. This is particularly the case in low-visibility scenarios.

It also enhanced the architecture for better accuracy and latency, higher recall of distant vehicles, a 20% reduction in velocity error of crossing vehicles, and a 20% increase in VRU precision. The VRU Velocity network was also converted to a two-stage network, which reduced latency and improved crossing pedestrian velocity error by 6%.

The latest FSD beta update also reformulated the autoregressive Vector Lanes grammar, which improved lane precision by 9.2%, lane recall by 18.7%, and fork recall by 51.1%. This includes a full network update that re-trained all components with 3.8x the amount of data.

Meanwhile, a new "road markings" module has been added to the Vector Lanes neural network, which improves lane topology error at intersections by 38.9%. It also improved the detection stability and recall at the hill crest by aligning the Occupancy Network with the road surface rather than the ego.

By distilling an expensive trajectory optimization procedure into a lightweight planner neural network, the FSD Beta v10.69.3 also reduced the runtime of candidate trajectory generation by approximately 80% and improved smoothness.

The update also improved decision-making for short-duration lane changes around gores by providing richer modeling of the trade-off between going off-route versus the trajectory required to drive through the gore region. It also reduced false slowdowns for pedestrians near crosswalks by using a better pedestrian kinematics model.

It also improved control for vehicles that cut out of the desired path by better modeling their turning or lateral maneuvers, avoiding unnatural slowdowns. Furthermore, by searching over feasible vehicle motion profiles, the update improved longitudinal control while offsetting around static obstacles.

This is all according to release notes first shared by Not a Tesla App.

Following Teslarati, the judgment on 10.69.3 is still pending, but Tesla is paying close attention to beta drivers' concerns. The company is working hard to make FSD widely available in Q4 2022. FSD Beta testers' feedback on 10.69.3 is likely to be very important as Tesla prepares for the general release.
