Drone manufacturer DJI has just announced a new event for next week, Nov. 2. This could imply that the Chinese tech firm is about to launch a new product or perhaps a new lineup of commercial unmanned aerial vehicles.
The event is called "Explore Vivid," and it was announced on DJI's social media channels that the event would begin at 9 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Nov. 2. The company has also launched a notification portal where interested attendees can sign up to stay up to date on the event. To sign up, follow this link.
A New Drone Coming Up
A close-up image of what appears to be the Hasselblad lens, which was originally incorporated into the Mavic 3 drone series and first launched in Nov. 2021, was featured by DJI in a tweet sent out on Oct. 27. The aforementioned Mavic 3 drone model features a 20MP 5.1K wide-angle primary camera sensor from Hasselblad.
With the aforementioned lens, drone operators can record videos with 5.1K resolution that are DCI 4K at 120 frames per second. The Mavic 3 drone has an aperture that can be adjusted between f/2.8 and f/11 and a dynamic range of 12.8 stops.
Many folks think that an upcoming product will be similar to or inspired by the Mavic 3 drone lineup. Drone tech informer DroneDJ also believes this could be the case, citing several moves made by the company in recent months.
Released FCC Filings
According to the same report, DJI has filed paperwork with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for a new drone to enter the Mavic 3 series.
The admittance of the DJI Mavic 3 Classic into the FCC database suggests that the tech giant's latest drone will be available soon. We can expect the new product to be released at a major DJI event, which has been teased recently.
According to Digitaltrends, DJI mentions a "Mavic 3 Classic" drone in the FCC filings, which is likely to be virtually identical to the existing Mavic 3 drone except for one camera instead of two. This means that the upcoming drone will lack a telephoto lens.
If the released files are accurate, the Mavic 3 Classic will be capable of shooting 20MP still images in 12-bit RAW format and videos in 5.1K at 50fps and 4K at 120fps. A variable aperture of f/2.8 - f/11 is also expected, allowing aerial photographers to capture sharper and clearer images in a variety of lighting conditions.
People on the internet are wondering if this new drone will come with an actual controller or if it will require the use of accessories such as the AVATA.
Others argue that the teased event and drone are simply a ploy by DJI to buy more time to research for the Mavic 3S one camera with telezoom, or to abandon both cameras entirely and create a telezoom and a 4/3 camera in one.
