Zhao (also known as CZ) said that when CoinMarketCap is searched on Google, malicious websites with ad tags appear in the front.

If this is true, then Google must fix this issue since cryptocurrency phishing websites may fool many people.

"Google displays phishing sites when users search CMC. This affects users adding smart contract addresses to MetaMask using these phishing sites," said CZ via his official Twitter post.

What he discovered regarding the search results for CoinMarketCap is quite alarming.

If you need to become more familiar with this website, CoinMarketCap is the world's most-referenced price-tracking web page for crypto assets.

In April 2020, Binance was able to acquire this website.

Since CoinMarketCap is now more popular than before, the crypto exchange company is worried that its search results would direct users to scams and other fake ad websites.

Is This a Bug?

As of press time, Google has yet to confirm if the issue with CoinMarketCap results is actually a bug.

But Zhao said that they are making efforts to contact the search engine giant so that this problem would be solved as soon as possible.

The CEO added that they are already informing consumers through social channels. If ever you search for the CoinMarketCap website, double-check the links before you click them.

CZ said that one of the websites misspelled the crypto data aggregator's name. Instead of "coinmarketcap," the phishing site uses the word "coinomarketcaap."

So, if ever the spellings on the website you are accessing are incorrect or looks suspicious, the best thing you can do is disregard them.
