But this time, the Elon Musk-led carmaker has confirmed that the free paint color promotion is no longer being offered for free. Instead, customers looking to get their hands on the sleek color option would have to pay for it at full price.
Tesla China Ends Model Y Free Midnight Silver Metallic Paint Promo
As per the latest news story by the Tesla North, the giant EV maker offered a free paint color option for its entry-level Model Y compact crossover in China.
The rear-wheel drive (RWD) variant of the Model Y got a free upgrade to a stunning Midnight Silver Metallic color option in the Chinese nation.
Customers in China who ordered from the Chinese website of Tesla got a chance to get their hands on the eye-catching color option for free. Those buying the Tesla Model Y straight from the official website of the EV maker in the Asian nation received a free upgrade promo.
None other than Tesla China announced on Weibo, the Twitter-like social media service in the country, that it has put an end to its free paint upgrade promo.
In turn, the Tesla North notes in its recent report that the Midnight Silver Metallic color is no longer being offered as a standard option. Instead, customers will have to upgrade to have their EV painted in stunning shiny color.
Tesla China says in Chinese that "the Model Y rear-wheel drive version is no longer provided with live silver paint as standard." Furthermore, the EV maker thanks its customers for their "enthusiasm."
How Much is the Midnight Silver Metallic Paint
The Chinese website of Tesla now offers the Midnight Silver Metallic color as an upgrade for the Model Y RWD.
The stunning color option retails for 8,000 yuan or roughly $1,116. Meanwhile, the only standard option that the EV maker offers for the entry-level crossover is black.
Tesla Price Drop in China
The color upgrade promo comes as the American all-electric carmaker slashed the pricing of its vehicles in the Chinese territory.
According to a report by Teslarati, Tesla China recently introduced much cheaper pricing for its EVs in the country.
The Model 3 sedan now only costs 265,900 yuan or around $36,476, while the Model Y sells for 288,900 yuan or roughly $39,645.
