The US Justice Department Charges Chinese Spies

As per the latest report by the South China Morning Post, the US Justice Department disclosed that it charged two Chinese folks on October 24, Monday. The Department of Justice (DOJ) alleges that these two men are apparently Chinese intelligence agents. And it turns out that the alleged spies look to be attempting to obstruct a probe on Huawei.

According to a recent report by BBC News, the charging documents reveal that the two charged men are Zheng Wang and Gouchun He.

The document further disclosed that they allegedly bribed US law enforcement into getting information on an investigation of a Chinese firm. It appears that they are attempting to get their hands on probe details, such as looming criminal charges, the witnesses behind the case, and whatever evidence they might have.

But apart from this case information, the two Chinese spies allegedly asked the official to covertly tape the trail strategy meetings for the probe on the China telecom.

BBC states in its report that the two Chinese nationals paid the US official in Bitcoin, amounting to roughly $41,000, as well as cash, and jewelry.

Is it the US Investigation Against Huawei?

The Hong Kong-based news outlet, the South China Morning Post, notes that the charging documents that the US DOJ released do not specifically reveal which Chinese telecom firm investigation was it. But the media platform reports that it is likely to be Huawei, corroborating the revelation of CNN.

It is worth noting that the giant Chinese phone maker, Huawei, has yet to respond to the recent announcement of the US Justice Department. However, anonymous sources have confirmed to various news outlets, including Bloomberg, that the Chinese firm was Huawei.

The giant phone maker previously faced fraud charges in New York back in 2019. But that's not all. In 2020, the Chinese firm went through more charges in the US, including conspiracy and federal racketeering for allegedly stealing trade secrets of the US, the South China Morning Post reports.
