A Korean Air plane got stuck at a Philippine airport for overshooting a runway. Although no injuries were reported, the plane remained stuck in the grass.
All 173 Passengers were Not Injured During the Incident
According to the story by NBC Washington, there were 162 passengers and 11 crewmembers aboard the flight. The passengers and crew members used the emergency slides to exit the aircraft while reporting no injuries.
The incident caused multiple flights to be canceled, and even the Mactan-Cebu International Airport had to remain closed due to the runway being unusable. The Mactan-Cebu International Airport is referred to as one of the busiest airports in the country.
Korean Air President Vowed to Take Steps to Stop a Recurrence
The president of Korean Air issued a public apology and vowed that from now on, they would take steps for a recurrence to be prevented. Woo Keehong, the president of Korean Air, said that the airlines always prioritize safety in their operations and regret the stress and inconvenience that the event has caused their passengers.
As for the plane, its nose reportedly received heavy damage while the front underbelly was sheared off. The front landing wheel of the plane was no longer visible as its front tipped towards the grassy area.
Authorities Assessed Whether It Is Safe for Other Aircrafts to Fly Out Safely
While the emergency slides at the sides of the plane can be seen, another more alarming sight is the ripped-open hole that was spotted at the top of the plane near a front door, as also noted in an article by Nikkei Asia.
The Philippine officials said that the first thing they would do would be to siphon the remaining fuel before they started to remove the aircraft from the end of the runway. Authorities also assessed whether other aircraft that remained started at the airport could finally fly out safely.
Dozens of Cancelled Flights Include 50 Coming from Cebu Pacific
Among the dozens of canceled flights to and from the Cebu province include those of Philippine Airlines, which announced over 50 canceled domestic flights. An official investigation of the incident is still happening as of press time.
As per a statement by Korea Air Lines Co., the Airbus A330 came from South Korea's Icheon and tried to land twice before overrunning the runway during its third attempt. The Philippines Civil Aviation Authority assured that all passengers were safe and that the ground personnel attended to them.

No Fatal Passenger Crash by Korean Air was Recorded Since 1997
Reuters noted that the Airbus SE A330 tried twice to land in poor weather, resulting in it overrunning the runway. As per the article, Cebu airport shared on its Facebook that it had closed the runway temporarily for the plane to be removed, which resulted in the cancellation of all domestic and international flights until further notice.
As per the publication, there has been no fatal passenger crash by Korean Air since 1997, according to data from the Aviation Safety Network.
