Sims 4 Is Now Free to Download; Here's How to Add the Game

EA is more dedicated than ever to producing new content to cater to new audiences and retain its fans.

In case you haven't heard, EA's "The Sims 4" Base Game is now completely free to download. The game publisher confirmed in September that the quirky simulation game would be free to play beginning on Oct. 18. The developers stated that the change is intended to encourage more players to share their stories through the game.

A previous report tells us that "The Sims 4" will be available for free on all platforms, including PC through the EA app or Origin, Mac through Origin, Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Also, EA is more dedicated than ever to producing new content to cater to new audiences and retain its fans, says a news release.

How to Download 'The Sims 4' for Free

System Requirements

Before you download the game, make sure your device can meet "The Sims 4" system requirements. For Windows, your computer must have at least 4 GB of RAM and be running Windows 7 or higher.

Furthermore, the game requires at least 15 GB of free space, with an additional 1 GB for custom content and saved games. It is also recommended that your PC should be running with NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or better, ATI Radeon X1300 or better, or Intel GMA X4500 or better.

Meanwhile, "The Sims 4" requires MAC devices to have at least 4 GB of RAM and at least 15 GB of free space, with at least 1 GB extra space on the hard drive for custom content and saved games. Finally, the operating system must be at least Mac OS® X 10.11 or later (El Capitan).

Installing The Game

With the EA app, you can get The Sims 4 for free.

  1. Visit the "The Sims 4" page on EA.
  2. In the top-right corner, click Play for Free.
  3. From the drop-down menu, select EA app for Windows.
  4. Click the Download Now button.
  5. Install and launch the EA app on your PC.
  6. In the app, look for Sims 4.
  7. Click the Download button.

The Sims 4 is available for free on Origin for MacOS.

  1. From the drop-down menu, select Origin for Mac.
  2. Click the Download Now button.
  3. Install and launch the Origin app on your Mac.
  4. In the app, look for Sims 4.
  5. Click the Download button.

The Sims 4 is available for free on Steam.

  1. Log in to Steam through the app or the web browser.
  2. Look for The Sims 4.
  3. Scroll down and click the Add to Library button.
  4. Select OK.
  5. The Sims 4 should be available in the left-hand game menu panel.

On PlayStation, you can get The Sims 4 for free.

  1. Access your console.
  2. Launch the PlayStation Store.
  3. Look for The Sims 4.
  4. Choose Sims 4.
  5. Select Download.

On Xbox, you can get The Sims 4 for free.

  1. On the console, sign in to your Xbox account.
  2. Navigate to the Microsoft Store.
  3. Select Sims 4 from the search results.
  4. Select the Standard Version.
  5. Click the Get Free button.

Players who have already purchased the Sims 4 base game will receive a gift from EA today, according to CNET. When member-only bundles of The Sims 4 enter the Play List, EA Play and EA Play Pro members will reportedly enjoy an improved gaming experience.

The Sims 4 Get to Work Expansion Pack is included in the EA Play edition, whereas The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff Pack is included in the EA Play Pro Edition.
