Unhappiness and loneliness are potentially aging you more quickly than smoking cigarettes, a recent artificial intelligence (AI) study reveals.
While the study points out that smoking could shorten one's life, it also shows that being unhappy or lonely is much worse at making people age faster.
AI Study: Unhappiness 'Ages' People Much Worse Than Smoking
If you are looking to live a longer life, you might want to stay away from being lonely.
As per a recent report by Fortune, recent research found that feeling unhappy or lonely make people age faster. Not to mention that unhappiness goes further in aging mortals than the unhealthy habit of smoking cigars.
The news outlet notes that the recent study is based on AI findings. The researchers looked into the biometric and blood data of its participants to check out how loneliness or unhappiness affects us, specifically in aging.
The researchers particularly focus on any signs of accelerated aging. It is in which "molecular damage accumulates and contributes to the development of aging-related frailty and serious diseases."
It is worth mentioning this process commonly appears in folks grappling with existing lung and liver diseases or has had a history of stroke. Apart from these health issues, accelerated aging typically occurs in people who smoke.
And it turns out that being lonely or unhappy is surprisingly worse than smoking cigarettes, the AI study finds.
Accelerated Aging in Diseases
The research algorithm also discovered that the accelerated aging for individuals with diseases, including stroke, and lung disease, only aged by roughly 1.5 years.
According to the latest news story by Science Alert, the study looked into sick people with varying diseases, which include cancer, liver disease, and heart disease. The research confirmed that these folks aged faster than people living without diseases.

Unhappiness, Loneliness 'Age' People Faster
On the other hand, it appears that mental health significantly affects the aging process in humans.
The AI study shows that people feeling unhappy and lonely are aging faster than smokers and folks grappling with diseases. In fact, the algorithm concludes that the lonely participants are aged about 1.65 years.
To put it into perspective, smokers are only experiencing an accelerated aging process of roughly 1.25 years.
However, Science Alert notes in its recent story that the results do not necessarily mean that smoking is actually better.
It is still a fact that it comes with the most risk factors. Smokers might end up with heart disease or cancer.
