Everyone knows that Draco Malfoy is one of Harry Potter's biggest adversaries throughout the book series. Other than his snow-white hair and ever-present snarl, one of Draco's most defining characteristics is that he's a member of the Slytherin House at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Or so we thought.
It turns out this whole time Draco was a member of Gryffindor, and we didn't even know it. OK, so actually the actor who played Draco in the Harry Potter movies, Tom Felton, is a member of Gryffindor, but this whole thing is still pretty mind blowing.
Felton took to Twitter yesterday to announce that he had finally joined Pottermore, the online Harry Potter community. When you sign up for Pottermore, the virtual Sorting Hat from the series puts you into one of the four Houses. Surprisingly, Felton was not sorted into Slytherin, which would have made all the sense in the world, because actors are obviously the characters they play, right? No, for some inexliplicable reason, Felton was placed into Gryffindor because we now live in an alternate universe where there are no more new Harry Potter books and this sort of thing happens.
Clearly, Felton was just as shocked as we all were by the news. But you know who wasn't shocked? The mind behind everything we're talking about right now, J.K. Rowling, who had this to say on Twitter in response.
Our collective hearts have now been warmed thanks to that interaction. But even with Rowling's consolation, Felton still seems pretty peeved about the whole ordeal.
Because this news really is so surprising, I can't say I blame him.
