Apple's Chargerless iPhones

According to a recent report by Phone Arena, Apple started selling phones without chargers in its box when it debuted the iPhone 12 back in 2020. Not to mention that the Cupertino-based tech giant also ditched the wired EarPods inclusion.

But the renowned tech giant touted that its surprising move to sell chargerless iPhones is an environmental move. Apple explains that ditching the charger and the headphones ends up taking less space when shipping its flagship device.

Surprisingly, the phone maker could now ship 70% more iPhones in the same space after getting rid of the charger.

On top of that, Apple claims that the move allows the tech firm to cut around 2 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually. Phone Arena notes that it is nearly the same as removing roughly half a million of 500,000 cars from the roads.

Apple vs. Brazil: Selling iPhone without Chargers

All that said, it looks like ditching the necessary iPhone accessory does help the environment after all. But the court of Brazil argues that selling chargerless phones is hitting consumers.

As per the latest report by 9to5 Mac, the Brazilian Ministry of Justice ordered Apple to suspend selling its mobile devices without chargers in the country last September. It comes after it has concluded that selling iPhone without any chargers harms consumers in Brazil.

However, 9to5 Mac notes in its story that Apple still sells its iPhones in Brazil anyway. It comes despite the suspension order from its Ministry of Justice.

And as such, the Brazilian court has hit Apple with another fine for failing to include a charger on its new iPhones.

A recent story from Reuters reports that the Sao Paulo state court now requires Apple to pay a fine to the tune of $19 million or 100 million reais, which the currency in the South American nation.

Apart from the fine, the Brazil court also ruled that Apple should sell its new iPhones in the country with battery chargers included in the box. So it appears that none other than the state court is now requiring the tech giant to stop selling chargerless phones in the country.

Reuters adds in its report that the Cupertino-based phone maker is reportedly looking to appeal the decision of the Sao Paulo state court.
