Google Pixel 7 Pro's display seemingly experiences a pretty serious issue early on a few days after the debut of the all-new flagship smartphone.
The massive display of the newly-released Pixel 7 Pro appears to be ruining its supposed battery life.
Google Pixel 7 Pro Display Battery Drain Issue Arises Early On
As per the latest news story by Android Central, the all-new Pixel 7 reportedly sports a severe battery-draining issue caused by its display.
To put it in perspective, the online news outlet says the new Pixel display uses roughly 50% more battery power than the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Well, that's significantly more if you put it that way.
The issue seems noticeable in low brightness. But at its peak, it seriously starts straining the battery life of the flagship phone.
According to a recent report by XDA Developers, the Pixel 7 Pro's battery life appears to have some serious issues. The news outlet notes that when the high-end flagship phone of Google is at full brightness, it lost a significant amount of battery life in merely 15 minutes, precisely about 10%.
On the other hand, the device only lost about half its battery life after three hours when used indoors with lower brightness levels.
What Could Be the Problem?
Although a higher display brightness sure does use more power, XDA Developers notes in its report that its power consumption appears excessive in full brightness.
It turns out that the Pixel 7 Pro uses up to 6W when its display hits its maximum brightness option of up to 1,500 nits. Meanwhile, when it is only at 600 nits, it only consumes roughly 3.5W.
On the flip side, XDA Developers highlights that Samsung only peaks at 4.6W while its display hits 1,100 nits. And for better comparison, the predecessor of the Pixel 7 Pro, the Pixel 6 Pro, only consumes 4W at 800 nits of brightness.
Android Central also learned in its testing that the display at full brightness on the Pixel 7 Pro uses approximately half of the power of its Tensor G2 chip. And given that, the news outlet assumes that when its users do other tasks on the high-end smartphone at peak brightness, it could potentially use a staggering 18W.
How to Avoid the Display Battery Drain Issue?
It is worth noting that Google has yet to publicly address the battery-draining issue. But an update might be out soon.
In the meantime, if you are keen on saving the battery on your new Pixel phone, you might want to settle for lower brightness.
