A nationwide initiative to monitor the condition of British freshwater bodies will begin on the weekend, Oct. 14 to 16. This agenda is being led by the "Planet Patrol" app, which encourages people to pay attention to their local waterways.
Planet Patrol and Autumn Water Watch
People in the United Kingdom are encouraged to participate in the "Autumn Water Watch" program, which is intended to assist in monitoring the conditions of local freshwater bodies such as rivers, streams, and canals.
The project notes that water is essential to everyone's health, well-being, and livelihood. They further stated that additional sampling, monitoring, and reporting are required to prevent risks to water quality in the United Kingdom. According to reports, a massive information gap needs to be filled immediately, and it can be done through activities such as Water Watch.
An environmental non-profit organization leads the initiative with the same name as the app. Planet Patrol is committed to cleaning up the planet of waste products that clog most waterways, harming both the environment and the population.
How will they carry out this global movement? Planet Patrol incorporates a variety of activities, including yoga, running, and fitness programs, as well as litter picking and data collection.
Lizzie Carr, the 2020 Prime Minister's Point of Light awardee, spearheaded this global initiative. Carr is an innovator who demonstrates and educates people on larger environmental issues affecting land and waterways by exploring the UK by paddle board.
"We hope as many people as possible will join us. Without the efforts of volunteers, environmental issues like poor water quality would persist, unobserved and unaccounted for, whilst invisibly destroying our environment and ecosystems until it's too late," Carr told The Guardian.
More About the Autumn Water Watch
The event will be the first-ever nationwide observational study of freshwater environments, according to the official website. This initiative is a superb way to get a glimpse of the state of many waterways accessible to UK citizens.

More than just a gathering of data on bodies of water, the event will be a great way to raise awareness about the issues at hand, as well as a valuable fun experience for friends and family.
How to Join the Initiative
Anyone in the United Kingdom can participate in the water watch by visiting local waterways between October 14 and 16. If you can't find a nearby waterway, the program suggests using Google Maps or a simple Google search. Participants must also download the official "Planet Patrol" app to complete the survey and save the collected data. You can get the app here.
According to the Guardian, Dr. Thomas Stanton, a Loughborough University freshwater scientist who will be analyzing the data, said the water watch would offer a national snapshot of freshwater environments.
