Volvo Cars provided more details about the EX90, their upcoming ll-electric flagship SUV, according to Electrek. The vehicle will be released in November, and there's more to look forward to.
So far, the EX90 will come with LiDAR technology that will deliver an "invisible shield of safety" to the driver and passengers. In addition to that, the vehicle will feature bi-directional charging capabilities that will bring in a lot of possibilities for renewable energy.
Volvo's Bi-Directional Feature
The latest news shared by the automaker said that the bi-directional charging feature would enable electric cars to contribute to easing this strain while plugged in, along with other Electric Vehicles (EVs), which will form a virtual power plant.
It can also power the home with energy needs, which means when unplugged, the vehicle will act as a battery on wheels that will power your needs, such as when you're on a cookout.
It is also "hardware-ready" for bi-directional charging. It should be able to power outside devices as a Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) energy storage system. However, other capabilities include powering your home and selling energy back to the grid, which will take a bit more time to roll out as this will need additional equipment. Moreover, it may only be available in certain areas.

The Importance of Bi-Directional Charging
This is an important feature, and it can help address the fact that some electric vehicle owners take advantage of a time when they use an ordinary power plug to plug in their electric car and they charge it at home.
This can cause peak demand charges, which are the extra fees electric companies and residential or commercial property owners could pay because the household increases energy usage during a period of higher demand. The electricity load has to be compensated for. Therefore, the synchronization of bi-directional charging, in a nutshell, will address these issues and make everything run smoother.
Volvo has been heavily involved with charging. In addition to that, Volvo is also looking into other ways to contribute to a greener environment so they are not just stuck to charging. The company is also looking forward to other ways to aid the cause.
Furthermore, Volvo has been an environmental leader for a long time. From trucks to hybrids, the automaker has been trying to be more environmentally friendly, and the company has been setting standards, which not everyone else could follow. However, this is not surprising, especially since Volvo is also a parent company of Polestar, one of the fastest growing EV companies in the world.
