Google apologizes after its Home Mini speaker read a racist word aloud in a viral TikTok video.
It is worth noting that the Google smart speaker previously censored the racial slur before.
Google Home Mini Speaker Read a Racist Word on a TikTok Viral Video
As per the latest report by CNET, a viral TikTok shows the Google Home Mini speaker repeatedly blurted out the N-word without censoring it.
A TikTok user that goes by the name @ohgustie posted a clip featuring a Home Mini speaker, wherein it repeatedly read aloud the title of a Kanye West and Jay-Z song, "N***as In Paris." And much to the surprise of the uploader, the speaker read the title without bleeping the racial slur.
The speaker also repeatedly said the N-word without censoring it when the user played another Jay-Z music, "Ni**a What, Ni**a Who."
But on the other hand, the TikTok user notes that the Google speaker apparently censored the title of the Doja Cat music, Ain't Shit.
On top of that, according to a news story by Gizmodo, the Home Mini also bleeped the word "fuckin."
So it appears that while the racist word is read without censorship, the Home Mini bleeps out other offensive words.
The user who uploaded the viral TikTok video went on to note that the Google speaker used to censor the N-word. But all of a sudden, it read it aloud without any hesitation.
CNET says in its report that it is unclear why the search engine giant has ceased to censor the racial slur after previously doing so.
