Toyota bZ4X EV Sales to Resume; What Happened to Its Wheel Defect?

Is there already a fix for the wheel defect?

The Toyota bZ4X EV will soon be back as confirmed by the Japanese automakers. This zero-emission vehicle was first recalled in June after a wheel defect was discovered.

Toyota's officials previously announced that the massive recall has to be done in North America, Asia Pacific, as well as Europe.

After around four months of waiting, the Japanese carmaker confirmed that interested buyers would soon be able to purchase the bZ4X.

But what happened to the dangerous wheel defect?

Teslarati reported that the EV defect is serious since it could cause bZ4X's wheels to fall off. Because of the issue, around 2,700 units were recalled.

These include 280 in North America, 2,200 in Europe, 110 in Japan, as well as around 280 in the Asia Pacific. Aside from bZ4X, the loose wheel problem was also found in the EV's twin model, Subaru Solterra.

However, Toyota hasn't confirmed if the deliveries of Subaru Solterra will also resume.

bZ4X Sales to Resume Before October Ends

The Japanese automaker said that it launched the bZ4X EV as a competitor for the popular Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen ID4.

However, the loose wheel defect prevented Toyota from selling this new electric vehicle. The car manufacturer said that it sold zero units in September.

It added that only 232 units of bZ4X were sold up to date. This is a very low number compared to new models that other EV makers launched.

Since there's already a wheel issue fix, Toyota said it plans to sell the advanced bZ4X before October ends.

The automaker specifically aims to resume its sales operations on Thursday, Oct. 6.

Aside from the wheel defect fix, Toyota also said it already has solutions for other potential problems, such as issues with improperly installed airbags.
