The recent Optus data breach incident has led iOS 16 users to be urged to take a safety check just to make sure their data remains intact. The safety check has emerged online and is being passed around for iPhone users, specifically the ones with iOS 16.

The Optus Breach Resulted in Customer Data of 2.8 Million People Being Stolen

The recent Optus data breach, as better detailed in an article by BBC, showed how customer data of about 2.8 million people were stolen. The data stolen included names, home addresses, birthdates, and phone and email contacts.

The stolen data even included passports as well as driving license numbers. The government said that there is a significant risk of identity theft and fraud because of the Optus data leak that happened.

According to the story by 9 News, Scott Polderman, a US entrepreneur, shared a guide that reportedly helps users take the security check. The step-by-step guide was uploaded by Polderman on his TikTok profile.

Polderman stated that "here's an iPhone check I bet you didn't know about." The US entrepreneur then shared how to do the security check by following a few simple steps.

How to Do the Safety Check on an iPhone

As seen on his TikTok profile, the first thing that users were urged to do was to go directly to their device's Settings. After that, users were then told to scroll down until they saw the Privacy and Security option and select it.

Once users were in the Privacy and Security section, they were then told to scroll down again and look for Safety Check, then open it. Once users have opened the Safety Check, they should scroll down yet again and click on Manage Sharing and Access.

iPhone Users Still Urged to do the Security Check Despite Not Using the iOS 16

After that, users will have to do the facial ID check, and when they scroll down, they should click on Continue. Finally, users will be able to see where their information is being shared and what type of information is being shared.

It is important to note that this particular security check is recommended not just for the users of the iOS 16 but also for users of other iOS versions. Although the safety check is recommended for those with iOS 16, for users with iOS 15 or lower versions, doing the security check could still help them check to see if their data is being shared without them wanting it.
