A Japanese memory maker by the name of Kioxia has developed a prototype for breakthrough technology. The prototype was a memory card, a mini SDXC, that packed a massive 2TB of storage.
Storage Space has Evolved from Needing Multiple Floppy Discs to Gigabytes of Internal Storage
Back in the day, storage was not only pricey, but it also had to have a lot of space. The evolution of storage over the years has shown how things have become more efficient and, thus more effective.
In the past, users need to have multiple floppy disks just to transfer .doc files or other smaller types of files. Nowadays, users rarely need to carry an external memory around since most laptops, computers, or even cell phones come with multiple gigabytes of storage.
Users can Now Store Files on the Cloud
To make things even more interesting, users now have the option of using cloud services in order to access their digital content anywhere in the world as long as they have an internet connection. This helps eliminate the need for needing to store certain things on the users' devices.
Of course, there are still a few things that cannot be transferred to the cloud like certain applications or things that the owner would prefer stored on their actual device. Due to this reason, having a significant amount of storage is also very important for users.
Mass Production for the 2TB Kioxia MicroSDXC Memory Card Could Happen in 2023
According to the story by Game-News 24, Kioxia has been able to create the first prototype for a small portable memory card that comes with 2TB of storage. The card is reportedly composed of 16 x 300 gram cards and has a 0.8 mm total thickness making it extremely thin.
Of course, this particular technology has just passed its prototype phase meaning it could take a while before it officially hits the mainstream market. As per the article, the mass production of the upcoming 2TB Kioxia microSDXC memory card could happen in 2023.

Different Potential Uses for the 2TB Mini SDXC Memory Card
As of press time, there has still been no official release date for the memory card or at least a more estimated timeline as to when it will launch. When it launches, however, users will be able to greatly upgrade their mobile devices to accommodate a larger memory.
The prototype SSD by Kioxia came with an Intel Express 5.0 interface and was capable of performing at reading speeds from 14GBps to 30GBps. As seen in the article by Tech Spot, the small memory card can be used on certain gadgets like a GoPro as the picture suggests.
Aside from just smartphones, users might be able to find other uses for a miniSDXC memory card like with a Raspberry Pi or other projects.
