Through the Accounts Center, users will now be able to switch between accounts on Facebook and Instagram. Linking the accounts from the two platforms is a must for users to access this new profile switching tool, which Meta encourages to unify the identities of the users.

Social Media Today also reported the testing for the new account creation feature, where users can now make a new account without logging off their existing Facebook and Instagram accounts.

The testings roll out today and are available for iOS, Android, and web users globally.

New Feature's Safety

As per Meta in their announcement, account security and privacy will be their priority as they roll out this new feature. Existing security features will be applied in this.

The company exampled that when two-factor authentication was activated on Facebook, the unrecognized device would not automatically log in to their accounts using the Instagram login information.

A notification will appear for users when a new account was made using their existing account that was added to the Accounts Center. Through this, it will make them updated on the activities that will happen on their accounts.

As per Meta, the changes will only be limited to Facebook and Instagram. But they stated that "we'll continue to explore how to improve connected experiences across all of our technologies."

Instagram Rolls Out Tests for Shopping Feature

Aside from the new profile switching tool, Instagram shifts its e-commerce strategy by also testing on home feeds and replacing the shopping tab.

A report from The Verge said that the shopping tab was replaced in the second menu and was buried among options together with settings and saved posts. It was replaced by the notifications tab.

This was confirmed by Meta Spokesperson Anne Yeh. She stated, "As part of our continued work to simplify your Instagram experience, we are testing a few changes to the main navigation bar at the bottom of the app with a small number of people,"

This test is not surprising as Instagram will change its direction on shopping features, as reported by The Information. Following this is the removing the shopping button permanently in March 2023.

An internal memo was also released by Meta that states that Instagram shopping will focus on its ad revenue and how to boost it.

Yeh added that commerce would be continuously significant in the company as they will make more updates for users to experience shopping in the platform conveniently as users see them on their feeds, stories, reels, and more.
