NV​​IDIA Warns That PC Graphics Card Prices Are Staying Expensive

NVIDIA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) says that PC graphics card prices would remain expensive even as some folks predict that they are starting to get cheaper.

The big boss of NVIDIA, Jensen Huang, made the remark on GPU pricing a day after its new GeForce RTX 4090 debuted.

NV​​IDIA CEO: Graphic Card Prices Are Staying Expensive

As per the latest report by Kotaku, the giant graphics card maker, NVIDIA, thinks skyrocketing prices of GPUs are definitely here to stay.

The news outlet notes that some folks are seeing hope the graphics card prices are likely to be more affordable soon. It comes as crypto mining is now dwindling. Not to mention that the stocks of GPUs have started to be less rare.

However, NVIDIA thinks otherwise. Its CEO, Huang, says that prices are no longer going to be more affordable moving forward.

The big boss of NVIDIA believes that "the idea that a chip is going to go down in cost over time, unfortunately, is a story of the past."

He points out that a "12-inch wafer is a lot more expensive today than what it was yesterday." The NVIDIA boss goes on to add that " it's not a little bit more expensive, it's a ton more expensive."

So it appears that the CEO believes that graphics cards would no longer be cheaper eventually due to the increasing manufacturing costs.

He made the response while he addressed the hefty pricing of the new NVIDIA GPUs in a question-and-answer session with various journalists.

It is worth noting that the prices of NVIDIA GPUs have remained quite hefty even as more supplies are hitting the shelves these days.

PCMag notes the cheapest NVIDIA graphics card, the GeForce RTX 4080 with 12GB storage, starts at $899. However, its 16 GB variant goes as high as $1,199.

Meanwhile, the newly introduced RTX 4090 retails for $1599 once it starts shipping next month.

A spokesperson from Nvidia told Kotaku that it would continue to sell its RTX 3080 10GB which retails for $699 in its graphics card lineup. The company further notes that it is "still an incredible value."

But even if the NVIDIA CEO believes that graphics cards would remain sky-high in prices, he bares that they still plan to launch cheaper lower-end options.
