The Tesla CCS adapter is finally here in the United States, which lets Tesla EV owners charge their cars in third-party charging stations across the country.
Several months since it debuted in South Korea, the long wait for Tesla owners in the US is finally over.

GRUENHEIDE, GERMANY - MARCH 22: Tesla CEO Elon Musk attends the official opening of the new Tesla electric car manufacturing plant on March 22, 2022 near Gruenheide, Germany. The new plant, officially called the Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, is producing the Model Y as well as electric car batteries.
Tesla CCS Adapter Launches in the US
As per the latest news from Inside EVs, the giant EV maker brought its CCS adapter, first launched in Korea last year, to Tesla drivers in the US.
It should essentially allow its owners to also top up the batteries of their EVs on other charging stations besides when Tesla offers them.
It is worth noting that non-Tesla charging stations use CCS connectors, which are widely used by EV makers these days -- except for the Musk-owned automaker. And as such, it prevents Tesla owners from using third-party charging stations all over the country.
But that would no longer be the case as the giant EV maker has finally introduced its new CCS Combo 1 Adapter.
According to Inside EVs, the Tesla CCS Combo 1 adapter now retails for $250 in the US, and shipping should start in roughly two weeks.
The US version of the adapter seems to be more powerful than its Korean counterpart. The new CCS Combo 1 supports up to 250 kW charging speed, whereas the version released in South Korea only achieves 100 kW.

Is it Available to ALL Tesla Owners?
The new Tesla CCS adapter is finally here, but some owners might not be able to make use of it.
Electrek notes in its report that the giant automaker says that the new "CCS Combo 1 Adapter is compatible with most newer Tesla vehicles." On the other hand, the older EVs might "require a retrofit to ensure functionality with third-party CCS stations."

BERLIN, GERMANY - OCTOBER 05: Tesla electric cars charge at a Tesla charging station on October 05, 2021 in Berlin, Germany. Germany is seeing a strong rise in sales of electric cars, due in part to government-sponsored financial incentives.
Tech giant recommends owners to check the sign-in to their Tesla Accounts to verify if they are compatible with the new adapter. The carmaker also notes that EV owners should update their software before checking out their compatibility.
It is worth noting that if the vehicle is not compatible with the new CCS adapter, the software also prevents them from placing their orders.
It looks like Tesla is ensuring that non-compatible EV owners would not make the mistake of buying one. And later on, they would realize that they still need some retrofitting.
Inside EVs notes that it is only available to the latest Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y.
