Is XPeng’s G9 SUV the Fastest-Charging EV in the World? Coming to EU Soon!

XPeng, a Chinese EV maker, claims that they have built the fastest-charging EV in the world, as reported by Engadget. Its G9 SUV is their latest flagship model that can charge up to 480 kW, which lets it go from a 10 percent charge to 80 percent in 15 minutes.

The catch here is this --- to experience that fast charging rate, you will need to use their chargers in China. However, the EV maker plans to bring the G9 to Europe.

XPeng worked with Sunwoda for its 4C technology to ensure their battery cells can handle 480 kW charging that was also customized, as reported by Electrek.

The G9

The G9 is a mid-size electric SUV with dual-motor 4WD models that can reach up to 551 hp. It is powered by two NVIDIA Orin chips and has advanced driver assistance with 31 sensors and dual-LiDAR sensors.

Additionally, it has automatic driving and parking assistance. The interior and design are luxurious that come in leather. It has an always-on AI voice assistant that can control over 600 vehicle functions even without a network connection.

It also has xOpera, the company's proprietary multimedia system that can deliver excellent-quality of music through an 18-speaker Dynaudio Confidence layout.

The SUV has a rear trunk volume of 660L, and when the rear seats are folded, the trunk space increases to 1,576 L. Finally, there's a 220V outlet with up to 2,200W of power that allows vehicle owners Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capabilities to power other devices.

The XNGP

Another selling point of the G9 is its second-generation ADAS system in XNGP. The company has made a lot of progress in its self-driving tech named Navigation Guided Pilot (NGP), and the highway NGP has already rolled out, but the City NGP sets the company apart from everyone else.

XPeng has shared footage of its City NGP on congested urban streets in Guangzhou for months, and it officially launched its pilot program. It is expected to roll out to customers in 2023, and the G9 is already equipped to deliver the technology via OTA updated. Therefore, the G9 is the first EV of XPeng to have all the generations of ADAS.

Gaining Traction

The startup EV maker first released the P7 last year, which gained success over its G3 SUV, which was released in December 2018. In fact, the P7 ranked 10th among all new passenger cars, excluding SUVs, sold in China during the first eight months of 2022, according to CNBC.

The company plans to launch two additional models next, yet-a smaller car and a larger one.
