Honda believes that electric vehicles (EVs), which are currently more expensive than gas-powered cars, would remain to be heftier in price.
The Japanese carmaker predicts that the case would remain the same, unless a significant change happens in the development of future EVs.
Honda Says EVs Would Remain More Expensive Than Gas Cars
As per the latest report by Inside EVs, a Honda executive predicts that EVs would remain more expensive than gas vehicles.
The Vice President of Business and Sales for America, Dave Gardner, believes that current EVs would have a hard time keeping up with the prices of entry-level gas-powered cars.
In an interview with The Drive, the Honda VP disclosed that the Japanese EV maker thinks electric vehicles that run on Lithium-Ion batteries would never be cheaper than gas cars.
EV vs. Gas Car Pricing
All-electric cars these days have been kicking off in demand as more automakers are debuting their impressive EVs, Inside EVs note.
It is worth noting that some of the best-selling offerings include the Tesla Model Y and the Ford F-150 Lightning.
And as such, as EVs attempt to be mainstream, more options out there have become cheaper than their fuel-powered siblings.
The online news outlet notes that in some cases the EV counterpart costs less than the gas-powered option. For instance, the BMW i4 M50 sedan is way cheaper than the starting price of the iconic M3 by roughly 30%.
However, the same could not be said for entry-level offerings, such as the Chevy Bolt EUV, which already rocks cheaper pricing to the tune of $28,195. But on the other hand, the gas-powered Trailblazer only costs $7,000 cheaper than the affordable EV.

Why Honda Believes EVs Would Remain Expensive
All that said, the Honda VP says that the case for entry-level EVs would remain the same even as the development of all-electric cars matures.
Gardner points out that the lithium-ion batteries, which are widely used on current EV offerings, would make electric cars more expensive than their entry-level gas counterparts.
He adds that Honda "don't really believe that the current lithium-ion technology is the long-term solution."
Instead, the renowned automaker thinks that solid-state batteries for electric cars would help them become more affordable, potentially going parallel with gas vehicle pricing.
The Honda exec says it would enable EV makers to release offerings "in the neighborhood of what a nice [ICE] vehicle costs."
