"Overwatch" is going offline on October 2 as Blizzard takes down its server shortly ahead of the release of "Overwatch 2," the giant game developer has officially confirmed.
So does this mean that fans of Overwatch are losing the assault game mode and tons more?
Blizzard's 'Overwatch' is Going Offline
As per the latest news story by The Verge, it looks like "Overwatch 1" players only have three weeks to enjoy what they love about the multiplayer first shooter gaming title.
No less than the commercial lead of "Overwatch," Jon Spector," has confirmed that Blizzard Entertainment has decided to kill the first iteration of the shooter title.
Jon Spector did not hesitate to tell Eurogamer in an interview that "October 2nd really is the last day to go in and play Overwatch 1."
The commercial lead further adds that they are "taking down the 'Overwatch' 1 servers roughly a day before 'Overwatch 2' launches."
Spector also notes that the downtime for the multiplayer game is going to last for about 27 hours as the developers gear up for the release of "Overwatch 2."
Meanwhile, according to a recent report by CNET, the spokesperson of Blizzard bared that they would announce the specific start of its server transition on Oct. 3 in the next several days.
It turns out that the last day of the first "Overwatch" is two days ahead of its successor. Thus, the two shooter games would not co-exist contrary to the initial plan that says otherwise, notes The Verge in the same report.
What Happens to 'Overwatch' Players
But despite all that, Spector says that "Overwatch 1" players could easily transition to "Overwatch 2."
The folks behind the game are making the switch so trouble-free that it would seem like it was a mere update.
The commercial lead himself puts it this way: "They'll get 'Overwatch 2' as basically an update from a systems perspective."
To be more precise, its players whether on a console or PC would be welcomed with a "Update the game to Overwatch 2" option.

Here's What's Leaving
But of course, "Overwatch 2" is distinct from its older sibling. It means that some of the gameplay that players enjoy from the first iteration would vanish into thin air as Blizzard takes down its servers this October.
The Verge notes that the hit assault game mode is bidding farewell as "Overwatch" hits its last day next month. Plus, the Space Jam combo and the six-player earth shatter are also leaving.
