Google Previews Emojis for Unicode 15.0, Includes Different Emotes, Customization & Color Font Support

Since the 1990s, emojis already became a part of every person's conversation. It grows as time passes by. Now, Google presents the newly innovated emojis for this year.

Unicode 15.0 will be adding new emojis, animations, color font support, and customization option and will be released in the coming weeks as it arrives on Android that will start updates in December, according to 9to5google.

Google Creative Director and Emoji Kitchen Chef Jennifer Daniel presented previews of the upcoming emojis via the Google Developers blog. This includes the additional emojis to the library by Unicode 15 such as wing, leftward and rightward hand, shaking face, ginger, donkey, moose, goose, jellyfish, pea pod, and new heart colors.

Because of this, the total number of emojis that are available for users to use is 3,664 which will all be available early next year. Google offered an option to download the updated library earlier than next year, which is now accessible and downloadable here.

The company will also be releasing newly updated "Noto Emoji" fonts that will now be fully colored as the original fonts are only black-and-whites.

July this year when Emojipedia released a possible additional emojis via draft list. Some examples that were presented are now officially launched. These emojis are part of the 31 draft emojis from the Unicode Consortium. As reported by them, no changes have been made to the draft list that was released last July 17, which is World Emoji Day.

Compared to last year's 112 suggestions and 2020's 334, the newly added emojis are much fewer. In fact, this is the least amount of new emojis that has ever been approved.

Alongside this are the animated versions of the emojis that are being used in Android. This will be the first time that Google will release a batch of official animated emojis as stickers.

Not all of it will be animated but Google confirms that 200 different animated emojis will be offered. The artwork is available under the CC BY 4.0 license. Download here the preferred file format.

Emote Customization

Users can now change the chosen emoji's color by using emoji kitchen. By only typing a sequence of emoji including the colored heart to change its color, personalizing emotes are now technically feasible. No need for users to require the Unicode Consortium, the ones who digitize the world's language.

Technically, these are stickers yet expect more updates and innovations from Google Emojis as this proves how fast the emojis are evolving.
