Telecom provider Airtel confirmed on Friday, Sept. 10, that it would launch in India in October. The company is reaching out to its customers, giving them an overview of what to expect from the provider.
Airtel has disclosed that the older 4G SIM will work in 5G smartphones as it is already compatible with the 5G connectivity.
Airtel 5G to Launch in India
According to News18, the 5G service will be rolled out to customers living in the metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and more.
The provider will roll out its 5G network to the urban areas in the country by the end of 2023.
The full list of cities that will get the 5G connectivity in October is listed on the company's app, Airtel Thanks.
What the 5G Offers
According to 91Mobile, the new 5G network is 30x faster than the current 4G network in the country. It is also expected to provide a network slicing feature that will cater to several other cases, like high-speed networks for customers who work from home and low-latency gaming.
The provider also says that the 5G technology will work on all of the 5G smartphones available in India, not just the ones they offer with their subscription plans.
According to Airtel, the 5G network will still work when you travel abroad.

What You Need to Prepare
Before the launch of the 5G network, Airtel advises its customers to purchase a new 5G smartphone. You do not need a new 5G-enabled SIM to get the service because your existing SIM card will still work.
Once the 5G network is rolled out, go to the network settings on the smartphone and enable 5G for your SIM network to start using the service.
Reliance Jio's 5G
Airtel is not the only telecommunications company in India that is set to roll out the 5G connection. In August, Reliance Jio revealed that it would spend $25 billion on its 5G services rollout.
The 5G connection is set to debut in key cities in October, according to TechCrunch.
Reliance Jio, which has around 421 million customers, will extend its 5G network to every town in India by the end of 2023.
Mukesh Ambani from Reliance Industries said that Reliance Jio would deploy a standalone 5G architecture that does not rely on the existing 4G network.
The company can connect up to 100 million homes with its 5G network and further speed up its connectivity ambitions with fixed broadband services.
Reliance Jio also unveiled the AirFiber, a wireless 5G hotspot that does not require fiber cables to reach homes and other establishments.
The company said it had developed a JioAirFiber Home Gateway, a simple, wireless device that allows customers to have a Wi-Fi hotspot in their homes. It will also enable them to connect to the high-speed internet via 5G.
