Fourteen hours after BBC announced the passing of the United Kingdom's longest reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, NFT artists and dealers found a way to observe the poignant event by featuring portraits of the queen in the crypto marketplace, OpenSea.
Queen Elizabeth II, the United Kingdom's last queen, died at the age of 96 at the Balmoral Castle after ruling for 70 years. She died peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 8, at her Scottish home.
NFT Artists NFT Tribute Artworks to Commemorate Queen Elizabeth II
According to The Crypto Times, the listed NFTs on OpenSea include everything from Queen Elizabeth pictures to art items affiliated with renowned NFT collections. The same report tells us that a collection dubbed "RIP The Queen Official" comprises over 8,000 NFTs from which buyers can choose various kinds of photographs of the queen.

Queen Elizabeth II NFT collections in the blockchain include processed photos of the British monarch, highlighting the queen's major events. There are also digital artworks of varying art styles emphasizing portraits of Queen Elizabeth II.
Meanwhile, there is a meta subculture category of NFT artworks that uploads tokens that are disreputable on purpose. These non-fungible tokens are better known as crypto degens. According to the same story from The Crypto Times, the OpenSea crypto market has been filled with over 40 new Queen-related meme tokens, including Queen Elizabeth Inu, Queen, Save the Queen, QueenDoge, Rip Queen Elizabeth, London Bridge, and many others.
Queen Elizabeth II ETH NFT Auction
In a Decrypt.co report, other crypto platforms have also seen an influx of artworks with a similar theme. In early July, QueenE, an Ethereum-based NFT initiative, opened its auctions, giving a single Ethereum NFT portrait in respect to the late Queen.
The project appears to have been created by Web3 developer Fabio Sevá and the pseudonymous mladen.eth. The project was intended to continuously release freshly-produced pieces for the duration of the Queen's life.
The report also tells us that the tribute project is comprised of a total of 73 artworks. Most of the artworks are digital lo-fi renders of the queen's portraits. The auction is currently underway, launching a single artwork daily.
As of writing, QueenE is auctioning an artwork called "QueenE 74," which currently has 0.22 Ethereum as the highest bid. At the current rate of exchange, the bid amounts to almost $345.
