Microsoft gave the world a new feature that aims to help Xbox users save electricity and reduce consumption made by the console while it remains plugged in from energy sources. The Xbox Energy Saving Mode is a default setting for all the latest gaming consoles of the company, aiming to help users save on their monthly electricity bills.
Xbox Energy Saving Mode: Does It Reduce Consumption?
According to Alex Hern, leaving an Xbox Series X on standby will cost users up to £132 (or $153) in the United Kingdom, and for older users, it is the default mode available for the console. This is the "Instant On" mode of the console that allows gamers to toggle the device immediately, without needing to boot despite leaving it for a long time.
The Verge reported that the Xbox Series X consumes 11 to 13 watts of power in Instant On mode, and it is a significant power consumption for the device. Leaving it on for 24 hours would cost users £4 ($4.63) monthly on their electricity bill.
On the other hand, having the console on the Energy Saving mode will only consume 0.5 watts despite having it plugged into the socket for 24 hours a day. The different power modes of Xbox only show that it is effective in reducing consumption, depending on user preference.
Microsoft Xbox Energy Saving Mode is Default
Microsoft announced that it updated the sustainability efforts of Xbox, focusing on the Energy Saving mode of the console as the default power preference for all devices purchased after May 2022. Dave McCarthy, Xbox's Corporate Vice President of Operations said "Energy Saver mode consumes about 20 times less power than Standby mode when the console is not being used or receiving updates."
Microsoft's Xbox
The new Xbox Series S and X consoles do not see a problem in stock availability anymore, and since early 2022, the device from Microsoft saw a consistent release that arrived to the public. The world is already seeing a regular availability for the console, and its offers include the features like the Game Pass and more.
Xbox also brought new controllers for gamers, with the upcoming version 2 of the Elite gamepads coming for the public soon. It still sees no unveiling or release from Microsoft, but an unboxing video from a YouTuber previously showcased what to expect on the new controller that the company will provide the world soon for better access to the console and its games.
More and more gamers get to experience the Xbox gaming offers for all, but the main concern now is the rising prices of electricity charge among users, which consoles contribute greatly to, should it remains connected to power. The Microsoft feature for Xbox's Energy Saving helps a lot in reducing the power consumption of the console, giving gamers a chance to save a little bit.
