By October, WhatsApp will update the list of the currently compatible devices on the app. This means that the users who are still carrying incompatible smartphones are at risk of losing access to the platform when the time comes.

According to a report by Express, some people require upgrading their handhelds right now if they wish to continue using WhatsApp.

Back in May, the company revealed that it will update the list of compatible Apple devices. In order to use the app, the users should make sure that their operating system is iOS 12 or later.

Starting next month, the older handsets can no longer be used to open the app. Originally, WABetaInfo was the first one to report the recent changes that might arrive on the platform in the next few weeks.

According to WABetaInfo, those users who have outdated iPhones are receiving notifications from the Meta-owned firm.

"Update to the latest version of iOS to continue using WhatsApp. WhatsApp will stop supporting this version of iOS after 24 Oct 2022," the alert reads.

Additionally, WhatsApp also made several updates on its support page. Particularly, it says that the app will only run on iPhones with iOS 12 and newer. For Android users, make sure that your device has OS 4.1 or later.

How to Upgrade Your iPhone For the New WhatsApp Update

According to The Sun, the first thing that you need to do is to head to the Settings app of your device. After that, look for General and click it.

Once you're done with this, choose Software Update to check if your current device passes the new requirements needed for the update.

If you're an Android user, you can go to Settings and tap About Phone. Then, click Check for Updates. You will see an Update icon once the update is already available for download.

The last thing that you need to do is to install and reboot the system software. You can now access WhatsApp when you're done with these steps.

Last year, the platform announced that WhatsApp will now stop working on 43 smartphones with the likes of Sony Xperia Miro, Apple iPhone SE, Umi X2, THL W8, Alcatel One Touch Evo 7, and more.

At the time, the users were alerted of the news and they were urged to transfer their messages to their emails if they want. To do that, you need to first open WhatsApp on your device, then access Settings until you reach Email Chat.

Now, tick the chat boxes where you wanted to transfer the messages from your WhatsApp account. Don't forget to input your email address and tap Send.
