Apple might just have released the most loaded iOS operating system in a while. The much-awaited iOS 16 contains features that most likely came from emptying Apple's suggestion box. Some features included in iOS 16 are those already mentioned by their user base way back in the iOS 15 beta. Check out this discussion on Reddit.
At its 2022 developers conference in June, Apple just released a glimpse of iOS 16, the upcoming major update to the iPhone operating system.
The OS is now in public beta, and iPhone 8 models and newer iPhone devices will receive iOS 16 this coming fall.
Major changes like the option to customize your lock screen and the highly demanded features like the ability to edit and 'unsend' iMessage texts are all included. This operating system also features more security and personalization features.
Edit iMessage Texts
It happens to the best of us: you intended to text a different message, but whoops, pesky predictive text or a simple typo caused you to be completely taken out of context. Sending typos is embarrassing for the sender, but it can be hilarious and annoying for the recipient.
Finally, Apple will now let you recall these annoying typos. With iOS 16, Apple users can also edit out these recalled messages, after which a tiny "edited" status will appear on the text box. This Undo Send feature will prevent you from sending just another confusing text to friends and family. CNET also tells us that users can now mark messages and threads as unread.
New Lock Screen Functions
One of the most underrated features of the iPhone is its lock screen. Every now and then, users will take a glimpse of the lock screen to know the time or maybe activate its Face ID unlock. This new operating system and the iPhone 14 Pro will add some more value to the lock screen.
Firstly, iOS 16 users can finally try out different styles to edit their lock screen. The same CNET report tells us that each style changes the color filter for the background photo and the font on the lock screen to complement each other.
Next, a recent report from MacRumors informs us that iOS 16's Lock Screen will directly interact with the iPhone 14 Pro's always-on display, enabling integration with notifications and wallpapers' depth effects and colors.
According to the same source, the iPhone 14 Pro's display cuts will look to have a single, unified "pill" at the top of the display rather than two separate cutouts.
And finally, widgets. Users can now customize lock screen widgets like news, activity notifications, calendar, and temperature. Users can also customize time and date fonts.
Private Access Tokens Instead of CAPTCHAs
Even though you are not a robot, CAPTCHAs can be really annoying, especially those repetitive and mind-boggling ones. This new feature for iOS 16 will enable users to bypass the said security process by providing a private access token instead. This will only work with websites accepting the said tokens.
More iOS 16 Features
Other great features include having Lock Hidden and Recently Deleted albums in Photos, allowing Landscape Face IDs, and upgrading the Wallet and Apple Pay Later.
With all-new personalization capabilities, deeper intelligence, and seamless communication and sharing options, iOS 16 improves the iPhone big time. Check all of its perks here.
