Retrieving a boat from the lake involves a lot of work, and it could be challenging for some. But who knew that an electric pickup truck could make the process a bit easier?
After tweaking a few settings on the electric pickup, a daring Rivian R1T owner demonstrates how it was retrieving a boat can be easily done without any problem, according to a report by InsideEVs.
Experimenting With EVs
Owners of electric vehicles (EVs) are a unique group. They not only assist a new generation of mobility but also help us comprehend the limitations of the EVs currently available on the market.
According to Interesting Engineering, this can help EV manufacturers design better cars and give potential EV customers more confidence to use their vehicles in places where they wouldn't trust a car with an internal combustion engine.
Users have started experimenting to learn more about Rivian, a relatively new electric vehicle on the market. For instance, this user named Rivvit.site posts videos featuring their antics with their EV.
Their most recent video features the Rivian electric pickup retrieving a boat from Bear Lake in Idaho.
The boat owner decided to utilize their electric truck because they would have had to stand in line for hours to get their boat using vehicles that were specifically made for retrieving a boat. The owner found it simpler to get their EV into the water because Bear Lake is renowned for its mild slopes.
The only thing the user had to do was slowly reverse into the water with the R1suspension T's set to their highest level until the boat could be fastened to the trailer.
After that was finished, the pickup's four individual motors demonstrated their ability to produce torque and lifted the boat out of the water, as shown in the video.
It also helped that the owner had initially lowered their boat into the lake using their EV. According to their explanation on their YouTube channel, the launching of the boat had a significant impact on how they approached trying to pull their boat out of the water.
Applying Fundamental Physics
Additionally, they applied some fundamental physics and made sure the EV gained some momentum while the boat was still in the water so that its weight did not initially impede the pickup from moving ahead.
The fact that Rivian engineers thoroughly tested their electric pickup for these circumstances is also beneficial. RJ Scaringe, the company's founder and CEO, released a brief video last year demonstrating how the R1T could wade through water.
While the R1T owner deserves all the praise for appropriately using the pickup's capabilities, the engineering that made it possible also deserves recognition.
This demonstration may have just shown the countless potential of EVs as they slowly take over the auto industry.
