Ford is once again developing a new electric truck, following the success of the F-150 Lightning. According to Automotive News, the new electric truck will likely go on sale in 2025.
There are few details available for the EV truck, though. However, the EV truck will sit alongside an electric Ford Explorer and the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning.
A Strong Move to Go Electric
Back in April, CEO Jim Farley teased the new truck and said that it would be built at the company's upcoming Blue Oval City campus in Tennessee. It will have an "all-new" nameplate and will help the automaker become a leader in electric trucks.
According to The Verge, the electric truck may be a styled full-size pickup under the F-series umbrella that would be marketed more toward retail buyers, while the traditional Lightning made in Michigan would be more focused on commercial sales.
Additionally, the fact that Ford will introduce a new nameplate is an indicator that the company is feeling more head-on about its plans for electrification.

Other Electric Vehicle Versions In the Works
On another note, Ford's plans to launch production of an all-electric Explorer SUV will be by the end of 2024, which will be built at the Oakville factory. The Oakville factory is currently being converted to an EV-only plant. Sales for the new Explorer EV will start in 2025. However, supply chain disruptions and battery material shortages that are rampant today should be taken into consideration which may cause delays. That said, the release and sales date targets are not set in stone yet, as a lot of things may change in the process.
Additionally, there were hints that there will be electric versions of the new Bronco SUV and Maverick compact pickup; however, for the time being, it's more likely to get a Bronco hybrid version that will be a competitor of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe by 2024. The hybrid versions of the Bronco Sport and Ranger pickup are also in the works
Within the next couple of years, the automaker is determined to work on the no.2 electric vehicle maker in North America, and then they will challenge for the top spot. However, Ford seems to have a long way to prove itself, as recently, Hyundai and Kia surpassed their EV sales between January and May of 2022.
