After a surprising announcement that SpaceX will be partnering with T-Mobile, the official event detailing what that partnership entails has arrived. One of the massive highlights of the event is how SpaceX's Starlink satellites will be integrating the mid-band PCS spectrum by T-Mobile.
What is Starlink and Why Is It Important?
For those that aren't too familiar with Elon Musk, SpaceX, and Starlink, let's first describe what their differences are and how they relate. To start everything off, Tech Target defines Starlink as a "satellite constellation system" that is designed to bring satellite internet connection to the world.
The whole concept of Starlink is to have a significant number of satellites in space in order to spread the reach of internet access. As per an article by CNet, Starlink already has over 2,000 functional satellites that are orbiting around the earth.
Starlink Internet Service is Reportedly Available in 32 Countries Around the World
It was also noted that 32 countries around the world have already been able to receive access to the Starlink internet. SpaceX is Elon Musk's company that designs and launches Starlink satellites into space.
Despite the satellite internet connection already being available for a selected few, some users have reported times of spotty connection. This issue is being addressed with the partnership of SpaceX and T-Mobile.
SpaceX to Integrate T-Mobile Mid-Band PCS Spectrum by 2023
In the SpaceX + T-Mobile Update event, which can be seen on YouTube, the latter's CEO Mike Sievert took to the stage and announced SpaceX will be using their mid-band PCS spectrum to be integrated with Starlink satellites set to launch in 2023.
The T-Mobile CEO noted that they are doing this so that their vision of users will be able to connect with their existing phones. Sievert then went on to explain that what they are trying to achieve is like putting a cellular tower in the sky.
T-Mobile CEO Acknowledged They Needed to Work with SpaceX to Accomplish This
Sievert acknowledged the difficulty of achieving this vision which is why they have decided to work with the "world experts at SpaceX." It was also highlighted that they would be using a piece of spectrum that the users' phones already know.
This means that there will be little to no adjustment needed since the technology for connection within the users' phones is already in place. The CEO noted that they are expected to enter beta for this project "as soon as late next year."

No Specifications Yet on How Long Tech Could Launch
They noted that this could be the earliest that the beta would be available. With that, it means that the launch of the actual technology could take longer.
There are still no specifics regarding just how long it would actually take to launch this service. When it does, however, users will be able to access better connections with the help of the Starlink satellites in space.
