Google announced today the rollout of Google Play Games for PC Beta in South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, and Australia, as reported first by The Verge. This will be available to all users from the country mentioned and will let them play games from Android on their Windows computers.
Earlier this year, Google also released an open beta for limited tests to select players that were chosen through a waitlist. As per the announcement, an invitation will not be needed for players to test the beta as limited slots will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition to this is the reduction of requirements for users to test the beta as Google's goal is for more users to play games for this new product.
The New Open Beta
Earlier this year, Google Play Games for PC was released for an open beta in only three overseas markets, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Taiwan.
The former beta also noted that players would need a system with at least an eight-core CPU, a 20GB available storage space, and a graphics processing unit that falls under the category of 'gaming' units.
However, reworks have been done as per the screenshots that Google released in their announcement. The new beta reduced these into a four-core CPU, an integrated GPU, and 10GB of free storage use. Through this new update, the compatibility of more users expanded.
In terms of design, the application before contained the navigation rail on the top bar, but it has been moved to the left side as this was common for material design both for desktops and tablets, as confirmed by TechCrunch.
This will allow users to play on a much bigger screen with better performance and more control options. The new update includes the ability for players to continue their game progress from their mobile device to personal computer.
50 PC-Compatible Games
In a blog post that the company posted, 50+ titles were added to Google Play Games for users to play Windows smoothly, which include Summoners War, Cookie Run: Kingdom, Last Fortress: Underground, and Top War.
Release Date
The launch of the Google Play Games for PC remains unknown as the company did not announce it yet. But through this beta, this opens more opportunities for improvement of the application. Details will be announced soon, as per Google.
After the partnership with Google and Windows, Amazon has also collaborated with Microsoft in a similar approach by getting android applications to PC users through the Amazon App Store. The company recently expanded this feature in Japan, as confirmed by Microsoft.
