During the Alpha5 presentation at Pebble Beach Automotive Week, DeLorean surprised the attendees by giving a glimpse of new concepts such as the Alpha5 Plasmatail 2024 and Omega 2040, as reported first by Motor1.
The company was recognized because of its "futuristic" features since it was popularized during the 80s for the film Back to the Future.
Production and Other Details
Comparing the two, the Alpha 5 and the Alpha 5 Plasmatail do not have distinct changes other than the new concept has now a roof that connects with an upright rear hatch. Because of this, it will be much taller. The production of this concept will start in 2024 with only 88 units as confirmed by the company yet details will soon be revealed.
Meanwhile, the Omega 2040, presents a new vision for the automotive company and it reveals the new generation design as DeLorean departs from the traditional. 2040 is not getting any nearer yet this was presented as a celebration of mobility and driving.
As shared by AutoEvolution, the Chief Marketing Officer of DeLorean stated:
"There was this enormous responsibility to make sure we honored the history of the DeLorean brand, but an even greater responsibility in curating its future. I think we did both with Alpha5,".
DeLorean's Alpha 5 Debut and Its Specs
It was described as "electric curvaceous, and up against a tidale wave of new luxary electic vehicles" as per CNET. Alpha 5's design was made by Italdesign during the leadership of the company founder, Giorgetto Giugiaro. It also contains a dual motor all-wheel drive arrangement together with an expected range of 300 miles and 0 to 60 mph time for 3 seconds.
This will have the DeLorean Sense that connects users to other users who are given (by the drivers) the connected band where they can see the heartbeat on the console screen and body temperature that adjusts the heat on the driver's seat via power seat bolsters.
DeLerean also includes the True North indicator where the dash has two narrow LEDs that glow when heading to a certain location where drivers consider a specific place such as home, office, etc.
DeLorean's Lawsuit
A few days ago, the company faced a lawsuit from an Electric Vehicle company called Karma as they claim that DeLorean allegedly stole trade secrets as they built and developed the Alpha5.
The Verge reported that the two companies were having meetings "to electrify DMC's famed DeLorean vehicle, which would have helped both companies to speed into the future at 88 miles per hour," which referenced the Back to the Future.
The lawsuit indicates that when the initial talks between the two exchanged ideas for a vehicle, DeLorean suddenly backed out and an Alpha 5 was created and continued without Karma.
