Netflix Is Planning to Add Cloud Gaming, Recent Job Listing Suggests

A recent job listing tells us that Netflix is advancing its cloud gaming plans.

Online streaming service Netflix is on its way to incorporating cloud gaming into its featured services. This is what a recent job listing from Netflix Jobs is suggesting.

On the listing, Netflix is now on a hunt for a rendering engineer experienced in game and simulation development. Also, the software engineer will be 'assisting the development of SDKs in enabling game developers to succeed in writing high-quality games for the Netflix cloud games ecosystem, the job listing suggests.

Streaming Service Netflix Eyes Adding Cloud Gaming Soon

Netflix has been silently developing its arcade in the application for some time now. Some of us might have no idea about them yet, but the streaming giant has been adding games to its entertainment features, and it is all available for its millions of subscribers.

A report from GadgetGuy tells us that app analytics estimates that games available through Netflix have been downloaded 23 million times and have over 1.7 million daily users. That number is 1 percent of the streaming platform's 221 million subscribers.

The potential in these numbers may be the pushing factor for Netflix's quiet position on expanding games for its entertainment portfolio. With these recent job listings, Netflix may be on its way to developing and releasing blockbuster games anytime soon.

In a report about Netflix and gaming, IGN shares that Netflix has always had lofty aspirations for its gaming service. Back in 2021, the company declared that it aimed to build "the absolute best gaming experience in the business." However, according to analytics, barely 1% of its subscribers play Netflix games.

These initial numbers are not yet telling. Then again, Netflix has not yet released any titles that appeal to the gaming appetite of its millions of subscribers. According to reports, Netflix is reportedly planning to offer 50 games as part of its subscription next year. No mention of cloud gaming yet.

A previous report from Tech Times mentioned that Netflix had been speculated to venture into video game development as a way to compete for the divided attention of the public. The same report tells us that Netflix hired Mike Verdu in 2021, a former vice president of Facebook's Oculus virtual reality.

Job Listings Suggest Expanded 'Netflix Gaming' Soon

Going back to the reported job listings, there are more positions that the streaming company opened for its future gaming expansion.

The recent listing included a security product manager that is preferred to have a 'strategic understanding of the gaming ecosystem, its exposure to security threats, as well as industry actors who play a role in our Netflix gaming security,' the listing adds that the company preferred candidates with an understanding of the streaming industry.

Going after blockbuster games after years of success with blockbuster movies and TV series is a good move from the streaming company. Eventually, the company will be exploring more of its options in the entertainment industry. Nowadays, an industry that keeps on advancing is gaming.
