Numerous mods for "Spider-Man Remastered" on PC have popped up in the wake of the game's release, allowing players to customize their experience as the webhead however they want. But with the advent of choice comes those who just want to sow hate however they can, even in a video game about a selfless hero.
A certain mod for "Spider-Man Remastered" on PC popped up recently, claiming to replace all of the Pride flags that appear in the game with the American flag. It first popped up on popular modding site Nexus Mods, and once again was posted on ModDB. But both listings have been taken down with a quickness, reports Eurogamer.
The mod was first uploaded to Nexus on August 15th, but was subsequently removed by staff two days later. Its version on ModDB was also taken down quickly, after a Twitter user posted screenshots of it on the site:
ModDB replied to the tweet, saying that they've removed the content and banned the users who posted it in the first place. Here is their statement:
On the other hand, here's what Nexus Mods had to say in their official statement regarding the "Spider-Man Remastered" PC mod:
In regards to the replacement of Pride flags in this game, or any game, our policy is thus: we are for inclusivity, we are for diversity. If we think someone is uploading a mod on our site with the intent to deliberately be against inclusivity and/or diversity, then we will take action against it. The same goes for people attempting to troll other users with mods deliberately to cause a rise. For our part, we will endeavor to do a better job of moderating our website to this ethos ourselves.
In truth, anything like this should never, ever be allowed in any video game being released. That's the best thing about video games: anyone can play, regardless of who they are.

There Are Better 'Spider-Man' Mods To Try
Instead of trying to spread hate, why not just try a few other "Spider-Man" mods that are just more fun? There are a few out there that have already made headlines too, so maybe that's good enough reason to check them out.
Perhaps the truly best ones involve some character replacement mods. One of these lets you play as Spider-Man's creator himself, Stan Lee. According to modder Robin (via Rock Paper Shotgun), the mod is a simple reskin that doesn't do anything major. The animations are also weird, but that's part of the charm of it. Here's a gameplay video of the mod in action:
And it's not just Stan that you can reskin as if you want. There's also Kingpin, MJ, and even freaking Aunt May - gliding around the city as a crime-fighting spider... grandma? Whatever happens, there are "Spider-Man" mods on PC for almost every occasion now.
