An iOS flaw is now blamed for preventing VPNs from working properly.
If this is true, then there will be major issues since many iPhone users tend to use these virtual private networks so that they can scroll many sites without getting tracked.
ProtonVPN, a virtual private network service provider, is the one that first discovered the iOS issue.
Now, a new report conducted by computer consultant Michael Horowitz stated that the iPhone system flaw discovered in 2020 is still active.
His research also claims that Apple is aware of the issue, but tends to allow it to continue on its iOS devices.
iOS Flaw Prevent VPNs To Function?
According to Apple Insider's latest report, VPNs should make the OS terminate all internet connections when users activate them.
After that, the VPN should re-establish the connections, preventing unencrypted data leakage. However, the issue found in iOS 13.3.1 and other later models is believed to affect this process.
But, since users are unaware that their VPNs are affected by the iOS issue, they will continue accessing various sites, which can lead to insecure connections.
"Those at highest risk because of this security flaw are people in countries where surveillance and civil rights abuses are common," said ProtonVPN.
On the other hand, Horowitz said that he found data leaks when using VPNs on the mentioned iOS versions. To make matters worst, the computer expert added that he found user details leakages multiple times.
Because of this, Michael said that he sees no reason why he should trust VPNs on iOS devices.
Why VPNs are Popular Among iOS Users
Android Police explained that consumers' ISPs (internet service providers) always provide unique IP addresses.
These details are somehow bad since they can be traced back to users' home addresses.
Because of this, many consumers tend to rely on virtual private networks to protect their privacy as these systems allow them to hide their IP addresses. As of press time, there are VPN packages that are free.
Of course, some individuals prefer to use paid VPNs since they are more secure compared to free ones. You can visit this link to see further details about virtual private networks.
Previously, some major VPN firms announced that they will discontinue their services in India as the country implements new VPN guidelines.
On the other hand, a free VPN app on the official Google Play Store exposed the user database.
