American Airlines Purchase 20 Overture Supersonic Aircrafts from Boom—Fast Air Travel Soon?

American Airlines purchased 20 "Overture" aircraft, also known as the supersonic jets from Boom, and it is the fastest prototypes there is, should the latter company release it for the world. Its potential is massive as Boom promises a supersonic passenger jet that is capable to travel on Mach 1.7 speeds, cutting travel time to more than half.

According to a news release by American Airlines, the company is already securing new aircrafts from Boom, a company that aims to bring the fastest commercial jets for the world. It ordered 20 Overture passenger jets from Boom, focusing on the supersonic airplanes that it may soon use for future overseas flights for a faster travel time.

The aircraft is capable of achieving Mach 1.7 speeds over water, something that is never seen before on passenger aircraft available in many airline companies now. It brings a significant boost to modern air travels as it is capable of reducing travel time by more than half, giving the world better experiences, and can carry from 65 to 80 passengers in a single flight.

Option to Buy 40 Additional Overture in the Future for AA

Boom said that its Overture aircraft is releasing by July, featuring its final images and prototype designs for the world, with its rollout coming by 2025. American Airlines noted that the first flights using the Overture is to arrive by 2029, carrying the first passengers for supersonic travels.

The purchase by AA is only 20 as of now, but it can go back on the deal and buy 40 additional passenger jets from the company, says Engadget.

Supersonic Jets and Aircraft Tech

Boom is one of the leading companies to develop a supersonic aircraft tech for the world, and it initially promised to bring a significantly fast jet that will take flights to save more than half its time to get to a place. One of the promises from Boom is to have its commercial passenger jets fly from New York to London in under 3.5 hours.

That is a massive boost for travel technology, especially as it usually takes more than 7 hours for a nonstop flight for New York to London using the latest tech there is for airplanes.

Other developments for airplanes focus on having electric batteries to power its propellers instead of the usual jetfuel that burns the material and adds to the emissions present in the world. Rolls Royce is one company that focus on bringing a clean energy jet for the world, and it is currently under testing from their labs.

As much as the world is focusing on bringing clean energy cars and other developments to transportation, faster jets and aircraft are also available now, under development from companies like Boom. American Airlines' purchase is a massive boost for Boom, especially as it is yet to bring the supersonic jet for future commercial air travel.
