WhatsApp announces on its Website's Help Center a new experience for its users as Meta introduces a stand-alone native application that is now available for Windows and soon for macOS, reportedly first by The Verge.
Before this was announced, users had to utilize the messaging application while using a personal computer or laptop via WhatsApp Desktop, a web-based desktop app or the WhatsApp Web, a browser-based app. Now because of this change, the usage will increase its reliability and speed.
The platform also confirmed it was made for a desktop operating system, hence the improvement. A cleaner interface, which is unnoticeable for the users to not familiarize a new set up, and the sync messages that you can receive even if the users' phone are offline.
WhatsApp Native App's Availability for Mac Users
For macOS, WhatsApp stated that they are still working on a native app that will be available for Mac users. For now, the messaging platform suggests using the WhatsApp Web and desktop-based app.
Beta programs are also downloadable while waiting such as the 'Multi-Device' feature where users can link up to four devices to the account without the help of their phone. All this will work by maintaining end-to-end encryption.
Rumored New Features
Privacy updates have been made by the platform over the past years which include the 'Last Seen' status, 'View Once' feature, and the expansion of a group chat participant. This year, WhatsApp might add the 'Hide Online' status feature for its users.
The feature will let the users choose among the two: it could hide their online status from every user or selected individuals that you restrict, and it could quickly block every person who saw the users' status by just clicking the 'Nobody' from the choices.
This was hinted at last July based on some reports by News18 and was confirmed by a reporter that expects the launch of this new feature sooner or later.
Complete List of Reaction Emojis
Also, this year was the update for using emojis as the reaction for messages as announced on the company's website vlog. Originally, this was announced last April but started the official release last May.
This feature will not limit the users' enjoyment as the complete list will be offered for the users to react, compared to other messenger applications with only six different emojis as reactions.
Telegram is the target of WhatsApp as its main competitor when it comes to these features as they also allow users to pick a wide range of emojis.
