The new Roscosmos space station has been unveiled before the Russian space agency officially departs the International Space Station.
This means that Roscosmos now wants to become more independent as it enhances its space industry. Previously, NASA and Roscosmos had some issues that somehow affected their alliance.
The former Roscosmos Head Dmitry Rogozin, even threatened the U.S. that they would pull out their rockets if the sanctions imposed against Russia were not lifted.
But, the two government-backed space agencies decided to look on the brighter side and choose peace. Although this is the case, Roscosmos still wants to leave the ISS.
Roscosmos Space Station Unveiled Before Its ISS Departure
According to Engadget's latest report, Roscosmos already had its own orbital laboratory called MIR. But, this Russian space station was decommissioned back in 2001.

Now, the new space station of the Russian aerospace organization, nicknamed ROSS, was revealed. However, the newly leaked orbital laboratory is still a model.
ROSS was first reported by the Russian-backed media entities, saying that the new Roscosmos space station would be launched in two phases.
They claimed that ROSS would start with four space modules, increasing to six as the platform is completed.
Unlike the International Space Station, ROSS is expected to be smaller since it can allegedly only accommodate a maximum of four cosmonauts.
As of press time, Roscosmos hasn't revealed the specific details of its new ROSS space station.
But, many individuals familiar with the Russian space agency's works believe that the first phase launch will happen between 2025 and 2030.
On the other hand, the second phase launch is expected to blast off between 2030 and 2035.
Roscosmos Extends ISS Stay
While waiting for the new ROSS space station, Roscosmos decided to extend his stay at the International Space Station.
Vladimir Solovyov, the Russian space agency's flight director, said they need to continue their operations at the ISS since restoring what has been achieved will be difficult.
Specifically, Reuters reported that Roscosmos is expected to stay at the orbital laboratory until 2028, two years until the estimated ROSS completion date.
Meanwhile, Roscosmos-NASA ISS cooperation was previously suspended by Russia.
On the other hand, Russia said that it would use its Roscosmos ISS part in any way it sees useful.
