Nintendo Announces 'SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake' Game: Here's What's Known

SpongeBob SquarePants, the nautical cartoon, is getting a game called "The Cosmic Shake." Players will be able to explore seven different worlds in the upcoming adventure game.

A new SpongeBob SquarePants Game is Coming Called 'The Cosmic Shake'

The announcement was released by Nintendo of America on Twitter along with a video that shows what players and fans might expect from the game. Instead of using the 2D version of SpongeBob, just like the cartoons, the game shows 3D graphics more akin to the recent "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run" movie.

Game is Expected to be a Sequel to 'Battle for Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated'

A more detailed rundown was released on a PlayStation blog post sharing how the gameplay for the upcoming title was released for the very first time. As per the posting, the game is a sequel to another fan-favorite SpongeBob SquarePants game, the remake of the "Battle for Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated."

The game can already be found on Steam which notes that its upcoming release date is still "coming soon." As per its categories, the game will be single-player, have full controller support, and falls under the Action genre.

The game was developed by Purple Lamp and published by THQ with the rights to the "SpongeBob SquarePants" franchise. To add, the same gameplay video that was uploaded on Twitter was also uploaded on YouTube.

Gameplay Video Shows SpongeBob, Patrick, Gary, and More

The video starts with SpongeBob and Patrick debating how they could save Gary, SpongeBob's pet snail, which has turned into a giant monster snail. SpongeBob then hypothesizes that this is because eating a massive amount of candy bars leads to a sugar rush.

The pair then decide to cut off Gary's sugar supply in order to calm him down. The video then cuts to a gameplay clip of SpongeBob going through different obstacles while battling different creatures.

Different Gameplay Mechanics Could be

The video then shows the pre-historic SpongeBob and Patrick crying because they found Squidward's clarinet. The video then cuts to a "Crash Bandicoot" esque style of gameplay where players have to race while gathering certain collectibles.

As per its listing on Steam, players will be able to travel to 7 different Wishworlds including the Halloween Rock Bottom and Wild West Jellyfish. The game will also be doing its best to stay true to the series as it includes 101 soundtracks in-game like the classic anthem Sweet Victory.

Game Confirmed for PlayStation 4 and Playable on PlayStation 5 Despite Being Announced by Nintendo

The previous SpongeBob game allowed players to choose between SpongeBob, Patrick, or Sandy to play the game.Unlike "Battle for Bikini Bottom" where there were three playable characters, "The Cosmic Shake" will focus more on SpongeBob.

Although announced by Nintendo, the PlayStation blog notes that it is coming to PlayStation 4 and will be playable on PlayStation 5.
